Has anyone noticed if the intercooler was big enough in the summer or when towing . My focus st had that issue ford put tiny intercoolers on them and on hot days or if you did one pull it was at it's limit.
The Ranger has a pretty sizable intercooler compared to the Mustang and Focus, but I am sure it suffers from heat soak regardless. All air-to-air ICs do to some extent. The factory cooler was made with what you are doing in mind. It is not perfect due to cost restrictions on the design, but I am sure you will be fine. Aftermarket units will be better of course, but I really do not think the factory unit is that bad compared to others I have seen.
I want to say that the numbers for one of the aftermarket intercoolers available were not all that much of an improvement over the stock one. Something to the tune of only a 10-12% efficiency increase over stock, but it is able to maintain consistently cooler output air temps due to the increased intercooler volume. But at a near $800 price tag, for me makes this more of a it'd be nice to have one day type of upgrade. Especially since the stock intercooler does appear to do such a good job at maintaining the temps.
