FWIW, Superchips is one of the very first outfits that offered ECU tuning back in the 80s. The name likely came from the fact that back in the 80s to tune a vehicle you had to remove an EEPROM Chip and replace it with one with the tune on it. Wasn't until 96 that ECUs had flash memory and could be programmed through the OBD port.

Superchips (& Diablosport) are currently owned by Holley.

The only down side (which is the same for Ford Performance tune) is it is what it is there is no ability to customize.

Ha Ha your post actually reminded me I had one of those 'piggyback' chips that went onto the ECU, we've come a long way.

Even thou I live in Ca, I bought a home in a different state a while ago where I can have this shipped. I’ve been prioritizing funds to my new place but have decided to buy one of these for tire size correction and because I want to know if $600 is the going rate for quality out of the box tunes or if it is $435.

In the end, I think other tunes/tuners will give everyone similar performance and most differences between this tuner and other tuners and their respective tunes will be negligible.

I know there are some folks on here who will deliver harsh criticism. No big deal. I bring it home in early March so I’ll post some thoughts in April.

So I ended up getting my superchips tonight. It updated easily and I was able to install the economy tune and make the adjustment for the increase in tire size. The transmission shifts normally again the engine sounds very different. I want to see if I can get my mileage back. I know that the change in tire size has skewed the mileage readings. Then I’m going to remove the tune and see what happens to the mileage. After I get some numbers, I’m going to move on to the 87 octane and 91 octane performance tunes. It’s going to be fun.

I almost forgot! The large 3.25” color screen is impressive.

Update:

changes/upgrades, MBRP cat back dual out (4 into 1 into 2), AEM dry air filter, 2.5” level, 265/70/R17, 1” wheel spacers, camper shell, running boards.

Some pics so you can see for yourselves.

Traffic is Light on the way to work. I’m 19-20 miles away and 15 miles of it is freeway. I set the cruise at 65 mph and hang out next to the slow lane. On the way home, it’s pretty jammed up so I set the cruise at 62 mph and tap the gas only so I can tap the brakes again.

The computer says I’m getting 24.4 mph but this is my second fill up. I haven’t done the math yet but I will when I fill up next. Tires are set at 31” and PSI is 38.5.

Im supposed to get 429 out of this tank.

Well…

Now that gas is five and a half bucks, I don’t think I’ll ever try any of the other tunes. My wife is driving the truck now and has a 12 mile round trip commute.

We just bout a 2021 Ecosport 3 cylinder, 1 liter. I commute in that. Just like that, everything changes. What was important yesterday means nothing today.

See ya~
