suggestions for offroad/camping in NE AZ / NW NM?

we're based out of Gallup for the next couple months. have done a little exploring, but would welcome suggestions of local roads that take us to beautiful places we can stay for a night or weekend. any thoughts?

FR 9350 Campground on the Mogollon Rim is nice. - AZ.
Grand canyon (especially the lesser traveled north rim) has good spots too.

north rim would be nice to revisit. we went there years ago when all i had was a minivan, and we were somewhat limited!
