Hi All - I just installed a new Over-Bed Rail Tonneau Cover on my 21 XLT Sport. I know that installation of a bed cross bar system (like Thule) with an over-bed rail tonneau cover to mount a cargo basket is not possible.... But I am trying to think of an innovative yet safe way to be able to place the cargo basket on the over-the bed tonneau cover securly. My thoughts are as follows:
1. Drill small holes into the cover....and use a couple of u-bolts to secure the basket. Yes...I would be drilling holes into the cover...but when the basket is not on it...I would somehow plug the holes so water does not get through to the bed.
2. Using cargo straps that would go under the tonneau cover and secure the basket to the tonneau cover.
The tonneau cover is rated to carry about 300 pounds of evenly distributed weight....but I would not be close to that. Let me know your thoughts...and let me know if you have though of any innovative ways to do this. Or just let me know if I am damn plum crazy and stupid to try this.
Thank you!
