o_OHaving owned several new Rangers over thirty years, I am prepared to compare reliability records or performance with any Tacoma ever built...Period!
I've been DRIVING Fords and fixing the rest for half a century,
Remember...
It was Abe Lincoln who said, "Don't believe everything you read on the internet!";)

The Ranger in 9,10, and 11 was a solid truck. Let’s hope the 19 does as well. I’d be willing to bet my Ranger cap against ? that it does not score as well as the Tacoma in its refresh year 16 or 2019, your pick. See the Consumer Reports used car guide and look at the last ten years of reliability chart and you will see the differences. Ranger only has 9,10,11 but compare that to the Tacoma same years. I threw the Explorer, F150, and Tundra in as well. The Tacoma predicted liability is low because of the complaints about the shifting which is a programming/matter of preference issue that is now green.

Yep but most of those issues relate to a matter of opinion (transmission shifting and engine power, low seating position, ect). Also have to consider they sell around 200k trucks per year, so percent wise there are more issues. The vehicle is performing as the Atkinsons engine cycle is designed to perform and does result in catastrophic engine failure. Much like the vibrating wastegates on eco-boost engines that irritate everyone, myself included.
Rear end howl. Wind noise from chassis that was fixed plugging holes or something.
Don't get me wrong...
If the Tacoma didn't look pretty much the same the last two generations and the tech was better, I'd own one now.
Looking forward in seeing what the new gen '22 will offer.

Yea silly they didn’t have that fixed at roll out. Be interesting to see what the Tacoma and Tundra look like on a shared frame. Guessing the Tundra shrinks as the F150, Silverado/Sierra, and Ram continue to pound it in sales numbers
