I've got a back-story to go with the year.
In 1986 I was fairly fresh out of electronics school and worked in R&D for a company that made automotive test equipment for Ford. I laid out circuit boards with tape and mylar, ordered the components we needed, built and tested the electronic circuits, and built prototype panels.
We drove and tested cars as part of the job; Escort, Taurus when it first came out, Super-Coupe (supercharged T-Bird, that was a blast!), and there were a couple Mazda's since they had a partnership. Also had a trip to Dearborn to meet with the Ford engineers on some of the equipment and ended up as a passenger out on the test track.
Being my first adult job, I learned a lot from the old-timers and they showed me how to use the machine shop tools, etch circuit boards and taught me a few things about mechanical design.
It was really a dream job for me but eventually moved on for new challenges.

While out in the garage, I found a couple labels we slapped on equipment, and grabbed a shot from the web of one of the testers I was part of. Guessing I may be able to find some of the prototypes still around the garage somewhere.
