I am a security guard and I have the privilege of working today. My site is just under 300 families and is located very close to Luke AFB. Most days I hear "the sound of freedom" constantly here at work (almost like a continuous thunderstorm), and I get to meet and greet many veterans that have retired to this community. There are lots of patriots and patriotic people here, and I am blessed by them.
I don't live too far from work now, having moved back to the Phoenix area after a brief adventure in Northern AZ, and we get to hear and see the jets some from our home as well. Lots of American flags in my neighborhood, and many patriotic people there, too.
It can be easy to take for granted my blessings of my home and work and the people I meet here, but I try hard to not let that happen. It can also be easy to take for granted the blessings of things I am allowed to have, and do, and be here in this country. I try hard not to let that happen either.
It is important to me to be aware of where I am. I was blessed to have been born in what I consider the greatest Nation on the face of this earth...created by men who sought something better for themselves and their families and who were willing to bleed and die to make it happen. I often thank my God for choosing to plant me here, even on those days when America stumbles or does not behave itself as the good example we all think it should be. Again, I am blessed.
Many of you are veterans or, like myself you have family members that have served or perhaps even given that last full measure for our country. I am thankful and blessed by you as well because without you, and those we love who have over the years stepped up to keep America free and strong, this would be a different world and a different life for sure. I appreciate you all.
Happy Independence Day!
