Cadillac?
:like::clap::thumbsup:
1981 Cadillac's had a V-8 that could, thru the use of solenoids mounted on the heads, could shut down 2 or 4 cylinders, depending on need and feed from the throttle. Was developed to deal with fuel mileage and gas crisis of the times.
Never worked the way it was designed....idea was great, but the technology to operate properly just didn't exist.
Was dropped after only one year.

I heard about this, early foray into cylinder deactivation. Even the new engines get worn down don't they? Something about the pistons moving dry and creating more stress on the engine?

I bet there’s still someone running one of these. Like the 5.7L GM diesel’s and Studebaker Gran Turismo Super Hawks with a supercharger . Probably have a forum for them too like we’ll all be in twenty years

No, they still pumped oil thru the engine passages. Problem was the solenoids were used to lock down the rocker arms of the rear bank 2 or 4 cylinders...had a lot of rocker arms breaking.
Also, on 4 cylinders the engine never ran right. Fuel savings never amounted to anything.
