I like Bibles and old books, and if any are interested in early Christian History, I can recommend EUSEBIUS, The Church History, English Translation by Paul L Maier.
Eusebius (A.D. 260-339) documented Christian history from the end of the book of Acts to the 3rd century. He pulled his texts from ancient manuscripts, many that have been lost to history since.
If you want to know what happened to the 12 Apostles, Paul, and the 70 early church founders, this is the definitive book. It is an easier read than you may think.
Did you know that Peter's wife was martyred in Rome just before him, and that "when the blessed Peter saw his wife being led away to death, he rejoiced that her call had come and that she was returning home. He called out to her by name in encouragement and comfort, "Remember the Lord!" Such was the marriage of the blessed and their perfect affection."

Between this book and Josephus The Complete Works, you have a very compelling history of events of that time period from all perspectives (Christian and secular).

Josephus was the Imperial Roman Historian for the Middle East, and an active participant in the events of day that he documented. He was Jewish by birth, upbringing, and education. He was not a Christian or Christian sympathizer.
He marched on Jerusalem with Titus (who saved him from a death sentence in Rome) during the Jewish rebellion, rendering him an unforgivable traitor to his people, and after the city fell, he returned to Rome and became a Roman Citizen.
The siege and sacking of Jerusalem was so vicious even the Romans were stunned at the carnage. As the Roman Legions moved south the displaced Jews fled to the only securely fortified city, Jerusalem. The city swelled to 3 million. Society within the city walls decayed into depravity during the siege as starvation engulfed the city.

Both fascinating reads.... Highly recommended.
