Bare Metal under truck bed

Did anyone else notice bare metal under their truck bed? It is the same on both sides. I noticed it when I first got the truck and was underneath looking at the spare. I just sprayed some bed liner over it to give it some protection. I wonder if it was used as a mounting point during the paint process?

Yep, my XL SuperCab is the same as yours. Pretty sure it's not bare steel. It is primered, but not painted.
