It is different -- I should get a pic. It's some kind of in line box. You have to unplug something to get to the ODB port which is in the box. My gut reaction was to remove the box, but it's not something that was just plugged in. Also, unplugging to get to the ODB port, but doing so, caused...
There's a useful distinction between plugging a device (which can be removed) into the ODB port and providing a different port for the state to plug into when they want to check emissions.
The whole reason they held me for awhile there was nothing that they recognized as a factory port. This...
Because it's not just a plug -- it's basically a box with circuitry. Something like that could easily tamper with intended functionality or influence readings by devices (i.e stuff DEQ depends on) trying to monitor the vehicle.
When I had to get emissions tested today, the people at the facility insisted both that this connector is not factory -- and that it is illegal.
They weren't sure what to make of it, and they eventually agreed to test me (which was good because my registration expires next week) but it made the...
You're totally in the clear. I seriously doubt anything you'd reasonably want to haul is going to be close to max and there's no way you'll hurt the frame with that thing.
I toyed with the idea of getting a shell. Much cheaper and way more aerodynamic. But my GF insisted on the slide in route...
It does well -- I've had it for 4 years and hauled it 10's of thousands of miles including a lot of rough roads. After riding a year on the stock suspension, I installed a set of Timbrens which improved things dramatically. Taking corners at full speed is not a problem. Definitely recommend the...
Ski mountaineering (telemark) -- we climb different peaks and ski off the top. This was Strawberry Mountain.
In the Bachelor area, Middle Sister is my fav. Will be going to the Tam Rim and Brokentop for a multiday the week after next
Yes -- anytime you need chains, four is probably a good idea unless you're in a "chains required" area that's not that bad.
When you have chains only on the rear, any kind of banking -- especially on an incline -- can pull you off the side.
Yeah -- despite this pic, roads aren't flat in the area. Def don't want to get into a slow slide that pulls you over an edge. There's no signal out there, and even if there were, assistance would not be forthcoming...
But is fun to drive with chains on all fours if the roads offer some...
Just got back from a backcountry ski trip. No one else even attempted the road, no tracks of any kind on the trail except elk at lower elevation -- we literally had the whole mountain to ourselves.
Almost got stuck in the middle of nowhere. My right side went over a steep embankment while trying to get by an oncoming vehicle on a narrow trail, GF was sure we were going to flip, and the drop off the road was too steep to climb back up.
Spent about 20min trying to MacGuyver my way out with...
I almost always carry a camper except when I take it off to haul stuff. Average over the past 10K miles has been 17. Having said that, I drive pretty slowly.
Mileage goes in the toilet once you get much past 60, particularly in wind. Drove 5500 miles from OR to IL and back during the winter...
Had the exact same thing happen. Except they also made a nest by the cabin filter filling it with all kinds of stuff -- including small rocks. Fortunately, no real damage and it was just a big cleanup job.
I've sprayed liberally with peppermint oil. Don't know if it helped, but they haven't...
This picture from this past weekend.
I'm impressed with the Ranger's trail mode. On the way in, we encountered two lifted Dodge 3500s on really good tires blocking the road because they were stuck.
I pack a tow rope and shovels, so we got them out. I found that I was able to get through the...
I'm just using 4 large eye bolts and washers attached directly through the bed -- there's also a few inches of heavy chain attached to the forward eye bolts so that the reach is right.
I trust this setup much more than the stock tie down points as they're both stronger and more optimally...
Mine's seen a fair amount of snow action -- it performs well. I still pack chains and a hand winch just in case though. Definitely have had my hands full in the deeper stuff.
Gotta thank you guys for solving my problem. Before wiring in some resistors, I decided to do an internet search to see if someone produced exactly what I needed, and turns out they do.
At $25, I'm happy to avoid the hassle of figuring out exactly what load it will take to trip the thing off...
I have a Capri Retreat. I could run a wire directly but was trying to avoid doing that just to keep things simpler. Also, I want to avoid setups that can drain the main battery if I don't pay attention to what I'm doing.
