Since you have clearanced crash bars 285/70-17 at 32.8” could be a safe bet.
275/70-17 is a safer bet.
Each size bigger tire you go the more your mileage will suffer if that matters.
Studying weight for tire size you can limit mpg loss. I got 3 mpg back by going to lighter tires (on another...
Upgrades are slow to come… but here’s the latest.
Today my 4x4 shop installed my roof rack & lights…
Prinsu rack and KC Hilites round lighting.
I am preparing this truck to spectate the Hammers next year, and the fun happens at night!
I installed a new DPFE sensor yesterday.
Amazing how much smoother it shifts! I hardly believe it.
If you guys have the erratic shifting give a DPFE replacement sensor a try. Sure worked for me.
I now have to evaluate if I really need a TW’s driveline.
Anyway I have a smoother runner now. Whew!
I agree! Worst transmission I have ever owned also in my 50 years of driving.
I have the DPFE sensor ordered. I’ll try that and see where it takes me.
I usually let my trans shift to 2nd before I lay into the power. 2nd on and shifts are ok.
Cold shifts are odd also, but I putt putt out to the...
My ‘20 with 38K miles is a wonky shifter. Mostly 1st to 2nd gear shifts. Sure messes with smooth acceleration pulling out into traffic or just accelerating from a stop. Add in *I guess apparently* a shaking driveline.
Plus the auto shut down ‘feature’ and my thoughts on the Ranger are less than...
My ‘20 Ranger is a base model with no traction aids. So yesterday I had rear a posi unit installed on the stock ratio. A elocker for the front maybe six months out.
It looks the same.
Could be lifted or leveled! My truck sits level.
Using a 1” block only in the rear and then a 3 1/2” BDS kit in front to bring it to level.
Fox shocks. 285/65-18 tires. No crash bars, good clearances.
I call it my mini Raptor… but its so much less lol. :)
I love the sound of a shift strategy, as my Ranger needs a shift strategy for sure.
I’ll bet most tunes come with a shift strategy.
Personally I lean towards Livernoise as most all people seem to love the power increase and shifting strategy.
I agree with Frenchy on max efficiency over maximum...
I do not drive like I stole it, in fact I drive rather modest.
I like a motor to pull, not rev out so I’m easy through the first 3 or 4 gears.
I really don't use sport or tow mode as they rev out too much for my driving style. I do live in the hills though…
70-75 mph on the freeway but 5-10 over...
I am getting 11-13 mpg around town & 15-16 on the freeway if I drive easy on each. Empty.
Also not thrilled with mileage.
Used 2020 w/285/65x18’s 35k miles.
I did gain 3 mpg going from 45 lb wheels to 30 lb wheels. I hope to go 10 lb lighter tires also sometime soon.
Speedo has not been...
Frenchy about covers it.
And value per dollar… Eibach, Bilstein, Icon or maybe Dobinsons are decent choices.
Old Man Emu has a good reputation and big following.
My experiences are with Fox, King & Radflo in various vehicles.
BDS suspension (Fox 2.0’s) is on my Ranger now.
I like an aggressive...
Right Frenchy a combination of both. ?
A combination of shock damping matched (hopefully) to a particular spring.
Street use, aggressive off road or loaded with a lot of Adv gear or tools/work truck usage.
What every owner has to figure out… their needs.
As with being brand loyal (Ford/Chevy/Toyota for example), I think that could apply to shocks/struts also. Or being un loyal due to pricing and value per dollar…
Maybe, maybe not.
I think stiffness or harshness can be due to to stiff a spring. Then the shock has to dampen/control the springs lb...
I wouldn't consider having shocks that can be rebuilt a liability. Its more of a feature.
Shock oil wears out, turns to fish oil as they say (breaks down).
Not sure if the other shocks mentioned are rebuildable.
Rebuildable shocks allow for replacing worn parts and using fresh oil. Even changing...
Here is close to full side view. Angles sometimes play visual tricks (to me anyways).
3 1/2” front 1” lift rear. 285/65-28 (32.6”).
More plate style bumper but gives you an idea…
I want to run on the tall side.
What I did with my Ranger after 3 months of ownership… Lol
I put my shift lever into S sport mode! (hardly noticed it was there)
I could not believe how much more my truck jumped. It really came to life.
Has me considering if I need to reflash… So for now when I really want to goose it, bring on...
You are correct! Pat Armstrong Ford.
They have been decent so far.
For the suspension & bumper/lights I went to Rockridge 4x4 shop - they are also a good place to do business.
