Just to update the thread, the dealer says that PBS (I'm assuming they can only speak for north america) is not available as a separate option in 2021.
I'm not certain what that other earlier post was referring to, about ordering it separately as an option (without ordering Lariat).
That does seem nontrivial... :)
By purchasing separately, I meant through the dealer and having them add it to a custom non-Lariat factory order. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like they are willing to do that. I'm curious about the poster that was able to order it...
Yeah, it's a nice feature, but not enough to get the Lariat (overall I did not like the Lariat, mainly due to leather seats which can't be removed from that trim level)
I'm just curious about the post that implied that it *could* be purchased separately somehow...
Thanks everyone for the replies -- great food for thought.
I'm still digesting all the information to decide one way or the other; I appreciate the input.
Interesting. When / where were you buying?
I'm just placing a factory order for a 2021 XLT, and the dealership said there was no way to get PBS separately. It can only be through the Lariat.
Hmmm...my impression is that there are a few different categories of run-flat tires. One of them does require a special wheel, but others (or so i've read) only need the modified tire.
Does anyone run aftermarket run-flat tires? If so, what do you use?
I'm contemplating adding them to a 2021 XLT (17" wheels), assuming the specific tire has suitable ride qualities (I've heard they can be stiffer)
I searched the forums, but didn't see any results.
I got ahold of a sales manager on phone, and request assistance from a fleet inventory manager (per some of your recommendations).
They are putting together a contract tonight/tomorrow, after giving me an initial MSRP quote.
1) If I have an X-plan PIN, should I mention this before the contract...
All dealers have internal tools to order 2021; that's how people have been ordering 2021 for 1-2 months now. But the public Ford tool isn't updated for 2021; not sure when it'll be updated.
Sure. I only repeat it when people ask why I don't get a 2020, that the configuration isn't available :)...
Thanks, replies inline below. Basically, i started with the same process...
==> How did you build 2021? Only 2020 build tool is available; 2021 Ranger isn't even listed on their site, that I can tell.
Either way I used the tool to come up with a 2020 build closest to what 2021 would be
2) You...
Thanks; this is what I've been doing.
My first email lists out ALL the options (both in PDF and in text as well), and I simply ask for a build quote. I know exactly what I want.
It should be simple, but I cannot get to the quote step :p
Instead, they ask for what features I want; and I keep...
Yes, it's with the same salesperson, so there is continuity -- it just seems like emails are lost into a black hole; they seem to ignore.
In the case of three dealerships, I gave up on who i was talking to, cold called the dealership, and talked to someone else -- and they requested I write to...
Interesting thought, thanks. I don't have a costco membership, but I'll consider getting one just for this purpose.
Is Costco only for in-stock purchases, or can they work with special orders?
Thanks, that makes sense. I'm looking for 2021 only because I'm looking for a specific feature combination that I can't find -- and it's not possible to order 2020 anymore.
I've been trying to get the attention of several SF Bay Area dealerships to special order a 2021 XLT, i feel like I'm talking to a wall with each dealership.
Does anyone have advice?
Details:
1) Due to covid I'd like to get a basic price quote (for a build) over email/phone.
Some dealerships...
So I read the factory tailgate damper mod thread to see why people don't like it...what am I missing? :D What makes them terrible? I'm about to get a 2021, and was going to add a damper until i saw these comments.
Are these recommended?

Interesting regarding the Tremor delay. Where was that note from?
Has anyone found an online 2021 configuration tool yet?
The closest i could find was this, but it is limited in what options are listed
