Pulled up to a light and an older guy in a new Colorado Z71 pulled up next to me. After complimenting the Ranger he started to complain that the Colorado had no power, didn't seem very happy with his truck. I told him I'm liking the Ranger a lot so far as the light turned green.
I was looking at those. Wasn't sure if I'd get dirt and mud stuck in them once I start hitting the hunting trails this fall though. Do they seal pretty tight to the rocker panel? They definitely look good.
For some reason the body color pinch weld under the rocker panels bothered me so I decided to paint them using some pasti-dip I had sitting in the garage. Just taped them off and knocked it out in an hour or so. Looks a lot better in my opinion.
When Ford started taking orders I hit up my guy at a local dealership and told him I'd come take a look when they arrive if he was willing to order one I already built out on the Ford site. A couple of months later I got an email saying, "your new truck was delivered today" so I went to take a...
Agreed. These two trucks represent both ends of the spectrum when it comes to powertrains.
Ranger: 310 lb-ft @ 3000 RPM
Colorado: 275 lb-ft @ 4000 RPM
Tacoma: 265 lb-ft @ 4600 RPM
They are both nice trucks, but Toyota's engine/transmission combo took the Tacoma off my short list. Any truck I buy has to produce solid torque down low, that is an absolute 'must have' in my opinion.
Exactly what I went with for all the hitches, tie-downs, extraction straps, wet weather gear, etc that I need to keep on hand. Works fine and easy to toss in the back seat if I need to use the entire bed.
I think I’ll just stick with the stock air box/filter, even if I get a tune and do some mild bolt-on mods in the future. It seems like you’d need to make some pretty significant performance upgrades before there is a need to modify the intake.
