Personally, I don't care if they are...I like mine and I like that the tailgate doesn't slam when I let go. To me it is just a nice feature and if you like it do it and if not leave others alone that do....
Mine was the first one anyone had seen in Aurora Colorado, or at least by all the people, who kept commenting "Nice Truck is that a Ford?" followed by "I thought they stopped making the Ranger!!!" Ha...
I am surprised I have not had this issue as I am pretty large man. Even though I have not I agree there must be a better location for the control and I also agree with the other poster the HVAC controls are difficult to find when you want to change it.
I find it funny about how bouncy folks think the FX4 is but I originally bought a XLT 4x4 and that thing would bounce my tiny wife right out of her seat. The FX4 as noted by my tiny wife rides much smoother and I agree. It also allows me to be prepared for whatever the road or lack thereof...
You are very lucky!!! I was rear-ended at a stop light by a person doing 50-55MPH in my 98 Ranger and I broke the seat when I was thrown backwards and my head went through the cab and cap windows nearly causing me to bleed to death. I guess maybe I am lucky because I nearly died not died!!

I live in Colorado, and it has been cold, but I can't say I hear anything like a roar...it definitely sounds like a truck (with a V8 even though it a 4 cylinder) but I thought that was the way it should sound...well maybe not for a 4 cylinder but either way, I love it.
I think most credit unions could offer you a better rate...Pentagon has 2.99 for a 36 month and 3.49% for a 60 month auto loan. I realize not everyone can be a member of certain credit unions but I have found they tend to be close to each other.
Size was a primary factor for me but the towing capacity, style, ride, and power were primary reasons for my purchase. Also, I like the creature comforts and in the Lariat with several packages I could get what I wanted. Oh, and let me not forget...the Hot Pepper Red...what a beautiful color!!!
