Was it throttle body injection? I had a Plymouth Sundance in the late '80's that was fuel injected, but it had a single injector just before the throttle body. I think they called it TBI.
There are tension springs and then there are torsion springs. You wind the torsion springs. The old tension springs were just big ass springs that extended as the door closed, leaving them under load until the door is in the full open position. I have heard many stories about when those things...
I really felt uncomfortable around those old tension springs, especially on those big heavy doors. With the door in the down position, those springs were under severe tension. Installed a lot of safety cables through those.
I remember one service call where the homeowner tried to work on his own...
Did you get the garage door fixed? I ask because I used to work on/install garage doors for a living. A non-working opener could be broken door springs, and the opener may not be able to lift the entire weight of the door, and just give up.
Well I used it real good this morning when I slipped on the ice and grabbed the deck railing with all my might. Made that finger hurt like hell again for a while.
