There has been PLB (personal locator beacons) for a while as well as their commercial counterparts. I have a Garmin Inreach which I use for hiking and off roading. It works over a majority of the world and offers satellite texting. I originally used a Spot Messenger when they first came out. It...
Have you done any tests on the attachment points where these units mount to the truck? I would think the stock thinner crash bars would deform more before they transferred energy to their attachment point. The thicker aftermarket item would transfer higher energy levels to the attachment point...
Problem solved. I went back to the tire store for rebalance and rotation. The rear tires were each out 1.5 ozs and the left front was out 2 ozs. I drove it on 5 up to 85 mph and the vibration was gone.
I noticed a significant vibration at 80 mph yesterday. It was enough to slow down. I don't usually go that fast so I'm hoping it's just a tire out of balance. I've had new Pirelli Scorpions on for about 4k and haven't noticed it before. I checked tire pressure and they were fine but I bumped...
I use Gaia and pay for the premium prescription. I download off road routes and play it on Apple Car Play in the Ranger. I'll search the web for hiking and off road routes before a trip. I'll plug that in to Gaia and make sure I have downloaded the map area. I wish they had a better Apple Watch...
Whatever lets you sleep at night. I always read about people changing their lubricants more often than scheduled by the manufacturer's engineering departments. I can't recall ever hearing of anybody rotating their tires twice as much.
I have the XLT FX4. I haven't used the trail control to get unstuck yet. I have exercised the skid plates more than I prefer with a new truck. I almost throw up when the bottom starts banging. That in itself keeps me off of the hairy stuff.
The dealer just called me back and said the battery checked out fine. I asked him why the auto start/stop hasn't been working for a few weeks. He said the battery was low. I asked him why was a good battery low if I drive it almost everyday and not short trips. I told him that something wasn't...
I started a towing mpg thread a few months ago. If I recall correctly, you're right in the ball park. It's the frontal area of the trailer that taxes the mileage. I don't see anybody getting much better unless they're pulling a trailer shorter than the cab. It's also the speed when pulling that...
I've commuted to the Bay Area for decades. I call them professional commuters. They feather correctly and maintain a closer relationship to other vehicles. Unfortunately 10% of them are just assholes. The timid are just cannon fodder. You try not to be a real asshole but sometimes you just have...
I have a Monday morning appointment at Ford to have mine checked out. As previously posted I had the touchscreen message at morning startup and dismissed it as a software update. That was a few weeks ago. My auto start/stop hasn't worked for a while either. I went for a 250 mile ride to the snow...
I seldom rely on weather reports 3 weeks out or press releases looking out 14 years. They will make ICE vehicles as long as they're legal and profitable. IMO they are just jumping on the Biden "kill the oil industry" bandwagon.
