Right now the low cost of electricity (10 cents a kWh) has everyone salivating to get one.
But what happens to that number when they have to triple or quadruple the generation plants, plus upsize all the wiring to hold the increased current loads. Power plants aren't cheap, whether wind...
I can tell you, there's a real downside to living near someplace that people DO want to visit.
We live a few blocks from a Fairground. It's been in existence for generations now. Fairs can be a little noisy, but mostly it's just the teenagers screaming on the roller coaster, etc. However...
MY daughter had one of these AirBnB disasters get set up right down the block from her. The house was bought and renovated by a realtor SPECIFICALLY to use as an AirBnB property. Withing a month or two of it finally getting opened up after the renovation, there was a party that ended in an...
That, my friend, is a big ass fan.
(I know.) I quoted a couple of these for my employer once. They didn't go for it. They went for a complete re-do of the entire HVAC system, (and believe it or not, it made things worse...)
I think you could probably edit the title a smidge and say "All Ranger lovers are ridiculous!" and not be too far off the mark.
Anybody else LOVE how this has turned into a SHOWCASE thread? :)
100%. That is precisely where modern Driving AIs fail, too. They are not really competitive with intelligent humans (yet).
If "autonomous vehicles" is the answer, I think it bears asking, "What is the question?"
Most of the questions I see right now:
How can I have transportation without...
Imagine where we would be if all the mental horsepower available was devoted to making cars better for people who actually LIKE cars and want to DRIVE them. It's the 24/7 nanny state trying to eliminate all risk from everyone's life that is sucking up the largest part of the R&D budget, and it...
Looks like people are gaining insight into just how difficult "fully autonomous" driving actually is. And high-risk when things go wrong. When a self-teaching advertising bot goes off the rails, it annoys people. When a 3800 lb self-driving machine made of steel and glass capable of speeds...
<sarcasm ON>... because cobalt mining is much more kid-friendly than that "fake news" image portrays. </sarcasm OFF>
"But he's not mining cobalt!" is probably true, but irrelevant to the point of the reality of nearly ALL rare-earth mining in Africa.
And it doesn't get much better in China...
This is very true, and it is an important insight to SOME of the difficulty of fully-autonomous self-driving vehicles. It's a LOT harder than it looks to do this.
At some point, it becomes ridiculous. Just hire a driver already. Take a taxi or Uber/Lyft.
