  1. Observations on 87 Octane Fuel and 91+ Octane Fuel

FWIW, I am coming up on 50k miles on my 21 Ranger. The first 12k or so miles I ran 93 with the Ford Performance tune. When 93 broke the $4 a gallon I switched back to 87 and have been running 87 ever since (I do use 93 when towing our camper). I do not notice and difference in smoothness...
  2. Synthetic oil.

Motorcraft oil is supplied by Conoco-Phillips. They also sell oil under the Kendall name, Phillips 66, 76, Lubegard and many others.
  3. Synthetic oil.

I always buy my oil in the 5qt jugs, it works out to be $2-$3 per qt cheaper than getting individual quarts. All of my vehicles take more than 5qts so I will buy two 5qt jugs and the second will be good for the next couple of oil changes. I also buy all my oil at Walmart. I scan the shelves and...
  4. Got a Ride in the Goodyear Blimp

When I was a kid we would see blimps coming and going from the Weymouth Navel Airstation. That based is closed now and has become an industrial park.
  5. Got a Ride in the Goodyear Blimp

Besides the two pilot seats there are two rear facing seats behind the pilot and six forward facing seats. There was also a wrap around bench seat at the back for loading/off loading. We all had to be weighed and the number of folks for each ride was based on weight. There were five on my ride...
  6. Got a Ride in the Goodyear Blimp

My son and I got an opportunity to take a ride in the Goodyear Blimp. It was a pretty cool experience.
  7. What the Ranger should have gotten in the first place!

I have no doubt that there are trucks with more storage space. A buddy of mine bought a 22 Frontier, it does have more space under the seat but nothing dramatically bigger and one was full with a kit that came with the truck. IMHO, the Ranger is very good compared to the other trucks I have...
  8. What the Ranger should have gotten in the first place!

My first truck was a regular cab and there was no space under the seat and the seat back did not fold to allow you to store anything behind the seat. My second truck was a mini truck with bucket seats, you could put some stuff between the seats. My third truck was a regular cab but the seat back...
  9. Tow mode all the time?

Here is a picture of my two fun cars.
  10. Tow mode all the time?

When I had Unleashed tune the shifting strategy of my truck I had him combine it with his 91 and 87 octane performance tunes. I have been running the 87 tune for a couple of years now and I am very satisfied with no desire to squeeze a few more HP out of the truck with a 91 or 93 octane tune...
  11. Tow mode all the time?

Not sure if you are talking about the factory sport mode tuning or Unleashed. When I had Torrie tune the shifting of my Ranger it was only applied to the normal drive mode. Tow and Sport modes were not touched and still operate as they did when I bought the truck.
  12. Tow mode all the time?

I had my tranny reprogrammed by Torrie at Unleashed tuning. I only use Tow Mode when towing my camper and haven't used Sport in at least a couple of years.
  13. How much fuel will ruin this engine?

All engines have some level of blow by that winds up in the crankcase. For the most part it is vaporizer and recycled through the engine by the PCV system. Folks that drive very short trips where the engine doesn't warm up completely may not drive it all off. Plus there have been a large number...
  14. Gas Milage - computer and sticker wrong

In the colder winter environment all the fluids in the engine, tranny differentials will be thicker which results in reduced gas mileage. Wheel bearing grease is thicker and reduced gas mileage. Tires are stiffer which increases rolling resistance and reduced gas mileage. Engine runs longer in...
  15. Any way to turn off climate control automatically when auto start/stop is active?

The best way to prevent aggravation from ASS is to disable it all together. Even the EPA is backing off on the requirement for it to be there. It was originally conceived as a way for car manufacturers to get emission exemption credits.
  16. Replaced Turbo after Wrench light & Underpowered Turbo Code- Same issue

A waste gate stuck closed would result in an over boost condition. If it were to happen as soon as the the boost exceeded what the ECU considers over boost it would shut the engine down. You would know it and it would scare the crap out of you.
  17. Replaced Turbo after Wrench light & Underpowered Turbo Code- Same issue

No, boost pressure is measured in the intake manifold. A plugged intercooler would restrict air flow into the intake manifold resulting in low boost.
  18. Aluminum Radiators vs OEM Plastic Aluminum Radiators

I speak from experience, early in my engineering career I was a test engineer for a company that made heat exchangers for aero space applications, was an OEM supplier of thermostats to the big three and had a line of transmission and oil coolers for automotive use. We also did custom work: we...
  19. Aluminum Radiators vs OEM Plastic Aluminum Radiators

Going from plastic to aluminum tanks on a radiator is not going to make enough of a difference to be worth the effort. You are going to need a radiator with an improved core. More coolant tubes, denser cooling fins, etc. FWIW, 180 degree thermostat is awfully low these days. The Ranger has a...
  20. Is Ford's Bluecruise coming to the 2026 Ranger?

You mean like this? ? My 68 Barracuda with "4 on the floor"
