  1. CDF Drum Failure

So after all this (new valve body, new CDF drum, new outer shell, etc) I have one question: does the 10R80 normally shift ā€œhardā€ from 3-4 the first time it goes through that shift? I have a ā€œreluctance to moveā€ in 1st and a 3-4 bang only the first time of the morning, when the truck has only...
  2. CDF Drum Failure

Just wanted to update that the trans has been perfect after the CDF drum replacement and valve body cleaning. The dealer says that a lot of 10R80 equipped vehicles have been coming in, but feels the Ford ā€œfixā€ is solid and should take care of the problem. Hoping for the best, if not I got the...
  3. Another One Down 10r80

I tow and mine went out at just under 40k miles. Spilled fluid everywhere and slammed multiple shifts really hard. I don’t know if towing more will help, but it seems to ā€œfirm upā€ the shifts which may reduce clutch slippage.
  4. Another One Down 10r80

Getting scared as mine just got a new CDF drum not too long ago and the valve body was cleaned (previously). Does it mean I have a problem waiting to happen, or should it be good?
  5. High fuel dilution (3.3%) in recent oil sample, highway driving

Thanks, with a 2,000lb travel trailer it will shift at 2500rpm max when crawling around town. Once it warms up I’ll get on the highway and let it rev more (when the coolant temp is at least half way). Will try to get another sample next winter.
  6. High fuel dilution (3.3%) in recent oil sample, highway driving

I never idle the truck, was told it’s bad and can cause extra wear vs just letting it run for a short period, driving at low RPMs, even when towing. So I’ll let the RPMs drop, put it in gear, tow 1-2 local miles at a crawl, then get on a highway. My truck never sees 2,500+ rpm when cold.
  7. High fuel dilution (3.3%) in recent oil sample, highway driving

Not sure if in boost, and I change the oil well before the OLM hits 0%, usually between 4-25%, so anywhere from 7500 to 9600 miles on oil change. This last change was closer to 9,700 miles simply due to the last trip and coming back put me right there. Spark plugs appear to be good, I have not...
  8. High fuel dilution (3.3%) in recent oil sample, highway driving

Has anyone seen high fuel dilution after a recent bout of highway driving and some towing? I would think short trips would increase fuel dilution, but this was run for more highway (state-to-state) trips than any other oil change I've had, and the engine was completely up to temperature every...
  9. General Grabbers - anticipated life seems to be less than I'd planned

After 45,000 miles I don’t even think mine are down to 1/2 the tread. The 80,000 miles Got3Fords has above sounds about right to me.
  10. Fuel economy

It looks like your truck isn’t getting up to temperature which could cause carbon build up, exhaust wear, and fuel in oil. As Sarge said, take it on a longer trip every week (greater than 10 miles, 35+ to really get the oil past boiling temp) and report back. Also, I’d recommend a high quality...
  11. Latest TSB for the 10R80

It looks like the new procedure to determine if the CDF has shifted is a step in the right direction. I’m so glad I got mine fixed - the new CDF and valve body repairs made it like a new truck. Now it isnt stuck in 8th going up hills (down to 20-30mph) and drops a gear when necessary, no...
  12. Dealership repaired my transmission

I changed my fluid at under 2 years / 30,000 miles and it made zero difference. The last tear down the shop said the fluid was not the issue.
  13. In the shop again after CDF drum issue

I too had multiple attempts to repair including a pump issue, multiple valve body clean and replacements, and the CDF drum finally replaced. I’d suggest being polite but firm with maybe a video of the trans slipping and banging and asking them to get it right. Eventually, they will get to the...
  14. Dealership repaired my transmission

Same situation here. I Iove the truck, but at 40k miles I’d think there would be a lot less issues with the transmission. Good thing I am covered by Ford Protect another 8 years and 135k miles (the longest plan), so I’m hoping that’s it with my truck’s 10R80 issues!
  15. In the shop again after CDF drum issue

2022 with just under 40k miles. I am uncertain if the current 10R80 which has upgraded parts is going to last.
  16. In the shop again after CDF drum issue

It’s been back 3 times, first time they reflashed the computer, second time they replaced the valve body and some bolts, third time they swapped out the CDF drum and cleaned the valve body, now it’s throwing the code and they want to diagnose the pump by doing another pan drop and tear down...
  17. In the shop again after CDF drum issue

So I thought things were looking better (haven’t even taken it back in for the rear end leaking) and now I’m getting some transmission related codes, such as P2796 for the auto start/stop. I am out of B2B warranty but am not sure if the aux pump is covered by either the Ford Powertrain or Ford...
  18. One Year Review

After the rear end was rebuilt, exactly 23 months later, it’s starting to leak again. Does this sound like something else (like a suspension piece causing an axle to not seat properly) or is this just poor Ford build quality? I am completely stock not lifted or leveled.
  19. Ford Ranger Among ‘Most Dangerous’ Pickup Trucks

The ā€˜22 I have is the strangest handling vehicle I have owned. Soft at times but suspension seems firm with a lot of body roll. I drove a 5.0 F-150, 2.7L F-150, and 3.5 and the smaller engine, lighter versions also seem to have some of this (slight) unpredictability. Maybe it’s the weight...
  20. CDF Drum Failure

I’ve had a bunch of what Michael is reporting including a read end tear down after only 3 months of ownership (rear end re-sealed), drive shaft wobble, the CDF drum issues, multiple APIM locking up and parking brake issues, yet I still enjoy the truck…just not when it’s having problems. I used...
