  1. Parking Brake Boot, Ford may eventually cover!

Thanks, airline tech! So for all of you with an original boot, new boot, or aftermarket, calling in Ford will help them expedite the “customer satisfaction program” where they will issue funds or reimbursement like a pseudo recall. If it’s not an inconvenience, calling in helps the Ranger...
  2. Parking Brake Boot, Ford may eventually cover!

I may be mistaken but I think all trim levels get the same boot.
  3. Parking Brake Boot, Ford may eventually cover!

Ford Corporate is telling me to suggest owners to call in and file a formal complaint if they’ve had the parking brake issue, to help expedite a CSP (customer satisfaction program). They may even reimburse those who had aftermarket boots installed. To Airline Tech - thanks for the detailed...
  4. Parking Brake Boot, Ford may eventually cover!

Thats the kicker, if I don’t get a loaner it’s impossible for me to take the truck in. I tow too much and use the truck as a truck to make any downtime reasonable. And if one of my volunteer groups, say a Scoutmaster or Animal Rescue needs me to pull their trailer, I can’t do that (legally)...
  5. Parking Brake Boot, Ford may eventually cover!

After many back and forths with Ford in Michigan, found out they are aware of the parking brake boot issue and are gathering info to do a customer satisfaction program hopefully in the next year. So if you bought an OE or aftermarket boot, save your receipt - it may be covered! Still no luck...
  6. Two years almost to the day, transmission going to sh*t yet again

That’s odd, my CDF was replaced but I don’t think the outer shell was not was the valve body replaced, just tested and cleaned. Really don’t want to go in for another tear down as it’s a long time out of service.
  7. Two years almost to the day, transmission going to sh*t yet again

They cleaned and tested all the valves in the valve body. But that was 15,000 miles ago. If I avoid any hills or heavy acceleration, it never slips. Keeping the RPMs under 2,000-2,500 you would never even know there was an issue.
  8. Two years almost to the day, transmission going to sh*t yet again

I already have the revised CDF drum and it still has issues. I will try one more fluid change and follow TJC’s recommendations and see what happens. It takes weeks (if not months) to service these as there is a huge 10R80 backlog (says multiple dealers). I rely on the truck too much to have...
  9. Two years almost to the day, transmission going to sh*t yet again

Not trying to be rude, I cannot be down the truck several weeks without a loaner. The last time I started the process in the Fall and it wasn’t winter until I had a functional vehicle.
  10. Two years almost to the day, transmission going to sh*t yet again

Thanks, will any of those mods void warranty? I am already a frequent fluid changer, every 15-18k miles, and it is a messy job without a way to drain the transmission easily. Oddly enough, if I am going up a steep hill and select (8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1) by using “S” mode before it gets too steep, I...
  11. Two years almost to the day, transmission going to sh*t yet again

I’m in the same boat as the OP. 15,000 miles in post CDF drum repair, and I’m not able to go up steep hills without it getting stuck in 7 or 8, then it slamming down and squealing one tire. It stays in high gear with the converter locked, slows to a crawl (engine lugging and pulsing), then...
  12. Well , transmission issue finally hit me.

Might have bought it used with 120,000 miles and put 25,000-30,000 a year, who knows things like this happen and getting over 200k miles without a trans issue is still amazing!
  13. Is 30k miles worth $2k

Truck has around 100k miles if the new engine lasts but something else goes out, or it gets into an accident, it would still need repair. I’ve literally played this game putting new or factory reman parts in a vehicle and then something happened right after…like tree fell on it…and that $10k...
  14. Is 30k miles worth $2k

Whatever you do, do not buy one of those Endurance or CarShield warranties. From experience, they will deny everything. Alternator goes out, the contract says it’s covered, but “the brushes wore out” is the diagnosis and therefore it’s excluded due to wear and tear clause. Window won’t roll...
  15. Is 30k miles worth $2k

So assuming worst case, it was abused and redlined and driven by a Baja racer (unlikely as 90% of the trucks out there probably are going to see fleet or daily driver use), he could save the $2000 and keep it in a high yield savings account IF the motor goes. If it doesn’t, he’s $2k ahead. If...
  16. Transmission needs replaced

Same here, I thought my dealer wasn’t able to reproduce it but they, without any codes, were able to find the issue when the CDF drum shifted and caused the issues.
  17. Who has had their transmission replaced? Happy? More failures?

Does rebuilt count? My rebuilt 10R80 with the new CDF drum is “working” but several other oddities like a 3-4 slam when cold and reluctance to back up seems to be giving me hesitation on the longevity of these things. FWIW 6R80 in performance cars like the Mustang have easily been going 200K...
  18. Weird stuff after Transmission replacement

I’ve had this timing chain rattle sound for years now (especially noticeable when next to a solid brick wall), and hear it more after the truck has ran a bit, sat for a few minutes, then Auto start re-starts the motor. I’ve been told it’s normal?
  19. Transmission starts shifting roughly, then issues go away.

I have had a full CDF drum replacement and exactly what you are describing about 15,000 miles later. I have no other signs of failure (yet), but keeping an eye on things as I don’t want it to leave me stranded and spill fluid everywhere while refusing to down shift. Since it’s “working” for...
  20. Is 30k miles worth $2k

I would do the used motor, this isn’t a collectible car or something rare like a Ferrari. Unless money is no object and the $7600 gives you peace of mind, it’s a mass produced truck, many of them will be in wrecking yards with just rear end collisions = many motors for years and no shortage of...
