Likely a bean counter somewhere that pointed out that it's cheaper to piss off customers by selling them junk and then ignoring their complaints than it is to fix an engineering issue in something that is already in production.
So sorry to hear this OP.
And while I know this is a VERY rare occurrence, every time I see a post like this it makes me reconsider trading mine.

The one I test drove clunked the same as my 10R80.
