Not cheap or easy but an option i think another company makes a lowering kit.
Les schwab sells this brand as well. I needed some cheap load e tires for a truck once and these worked great for the work they did. No issues with them.

Yeah the fronts are coil overs and unless they are leaking or obviously damaged, removing the spring would be the only way to check the actual strut rebound and compression. I doubt he did that on both as it would be full disassembly and alignment afterwards.
