something i just thought of is that the mustang with the 2.3 has basically the same alternator setup. they are much lower to the ground. does the 2.3 mustang have any sort of alternator shielding etc? maybe a non issue as i doubt the average mustang driver is launching a boat or overlanding the car.

thats a tough one to call. 300 miles on oil is not many miles - even by old conventional oil standards that about 10 % of the oils life. Maybe check the filter and see if it is the same one. or look for drips and spills.

not sure if its true but i used to hear folks say if you were worried about water in the diffs just stop for about 15 mins and let the stuff cool down. something about the temp of water vs. air temp and diff temp. so if the diffs are cooler less likely for water to get in. I could be totally wrong.

to be fair my truck does have the ford perfomance pack tune and filter. so maybe that helps my mpg a bit. but i doubt by much if any.

wheel or tire is not up to snuff. id try tire first. likely has a manufacturer warranty for 40k miles or so.
