I think you are expecting way to much from this system. The much more sophisticated self driving systems are running over pedestrians and rear ending stopped semis.

Eye tracking technology has been around a long time. Many of our aviation weapons systems are aim where you look. Shouldn't be very hard to incorporate when all it needs to do is to see if you are looking ahead.
