Hey all. I've got a 21 Ranger with 44k on the clock. Recently I've started hearing what can be described as a metallic howling noise generally when decelerating. No associated vibration, no warning lights, etc. The transmission is shifting fine and I checked the fluid level (which was fine as...
Yes it's 2WD. Why? It's all they had and I needed a truck sooner rather than later.
It's "Sirch and Rascue" from the Gambler 500, not affiliated with any actual search and rescue.
It's quite capable. I have a locking diff with Jeep JL gears (gen5 rangers use the same Dana 40 m220 as the Jeeps...
The suspension is now where I want it. New upper control arms (SPC) and another 2.5 inches of lift bring the front to the same level as the rear. She feels tall. Measurements (approximate):
Body to ground is 22 inches
Frame to ground is 17 inches
Lowest skid plate to ground is 14 inches
I emailed the company today for a quote. I know it's a rather unusual setup, but honestly this would do amazing things for winter traction out in the backcountry. There are videos on youtube of 4x4's with them, and the traction is absolutely bonkers.
Obviously no real need to get a set of 4...
Okay. I know I'm insane....but I was looking at American Track Truck's site (www.americantracktruck.com) and a poorly photoshopped picture later I'm actually kind of wanting to do this for back country winter camping.
Depends. If I'm overlanding in the middle of nowhere and am unsure where the nearest gas is I'll fill up like a madman...sometimes when I'm down only a quarter tank. I do have a 16 gallon spare in the back for those "oops" moments, though.
Around town I'll wait until she chimes that I've got...
My local 4WP store happened to have a set at another store. Otherwise it would have been almost 6 months, so yeah. I feel you on this. Seems like damn near everything is backorder.
Couple of things. Those Bilstein's are great shocks. They made a world of difference with my heavy front end. You won't regret them.
if you have the funds, do the rear with some heftier Bilstein's as well. Especially if you're going to be towing. The stock capacity of the Ranger isn't great...
Okay, last picture of the truck. I don't mean to spam ya'll or anything, but I did say I'd provide a better picture. I have to admit that looking at things now my little man brain immediately says: "hm, if those 285's fit so well could I fit bigger tires?" LOL. I think my wife would leave...
Ah, true. I'll have a look around. Although I think they would be wide enough for the kiddos at least. I'm a tall feller, so I don't have issues hopping in and out.
 You are quite helpful, my friend. You know, the time to get the rock sliders was perhaps BEFORE I decided to turn too sharp around a rather narrow trail and smoosh my ranger into a tree. *sigh*. That said, my little ones do have trouble getting in and out on their own, and these would be...
gas mileage?! what's that?! In all seriousness, my ranger is uh...thirsty. With the camper and overland load, fuel economy is down the tubes. Next time I drive down to Salem I'll have a gander at my fuel economy and will post it.
