Fitting taller tires alters the scrub radius, necessitating a little more track width. You can obviously take this too far. I did the math a while back and don't have the formula handy, but one inch was the sweet spot for both scrub and keeping the tires inside the wheel well. That Autopian...

Sorry about your oil pan. Consider adding a one inch (no more, no less) spacer to those stock offset wheels front and rear. Stage3 sells good ones. They'll correct your scrub radius and make the sidewalls flush with your fenders. Smart tire size choice.
  3. Ranger vs Outback

Yes, which is why it's disappointing to see people repeating it instead of participating in a fact-based discussion. Believe it or not, but the mechanical abilities of vehicles can be quantified. Even when they run on the power of love.
  4. Ranger vs Outback

What is any of this beyond marketing designed to manipulate you?
  5. Ranger vs Outback

Have you thought about a Hyundai Santa Cruz instead of a subie? Better engine and transmission, more traction, truck bed.
  6. Ranger vs Outback

Here's a good video explaining how a rally car diff works. This is a whole nother world from sending power to the wheel with the least traction. https://www.roadandtrack.com/motorsports/a21512872/world-rally-car-center-differential-explained/
  7. Ranger vs Outback

All the crossover Subarus are on the same modular platform and are mechanically identical aside from engines. None of them have anything in common with rally cars beyond badges.
  8. Ranger vs Outback

What exactly does any of this language mean? Do Subarus come with crash tested dog barriers? Do they include any sort of safety or convenience features for dog owners? Or did Subaru just rent some dogs for a shoot?

  11. Brighter XLT Headlight Bulb Replacement?

Genuine question for those of you swapping fog bulbs or lamps: how are you using them? If you're running them to supplement the low beams, don't you then reduces illumination when you switch on the high beams?
  12. Ranger vs Outback

I bought an Outback for a girlfriend back in 2015. It was a solid practical all rounder that was easy to drive and park, and worked well on road trips. But I think there's just a huge gap between people's understanding of the car's capabilities and intended purpose, and the reality. Some...
  13. Slick Rock vs Rangers

You'll be fine on Fins and Things. You could probably do Hells, but will drag you ass in a few places.
  14. Full Commitment to Ranger Build

It always blows my mind that people get the impression anything other than a Toyota must catch fire the second it leaves a dealer lot. That kind of misunderstanding is how they get away with selling utter trash. But it sounds like you already get it. The Ranger is a Hilux beater, not a...

Spacers are totally safe if properly constructed and torqued. Lot better than crazy offset wheels.

    It's a jeep thing, I wouldn't understand.

Yeah, you don't want beadlock on anything with a license plate. They're heavy, difficult to balance, and take a ton of maintenance. Racing and/or crawling are not adequate stand ins for real world use. You'd be decreasing performance and useabilty in 99 percent of circumstances.
  18. Why order an FX4 package after reading this forum?

Why would you ditch the wheels? It's pretty hard to find the correct offset for a Ranger on taller tires (+30) in the aftermarket. And aftermarket wheels are almost always lower quality than stock. Just add a one inch spacer front and rear and everything lines up appropriately.

Try trail control on somebody else's truck sometime. Not saying you need it or should have it, but it's worth learning about. We've got a really steep driveway at our place in Glacier that turns 180 degrees at the steepest section. Getting up or down that when it's icy, with a fully loaded...
