  1. Oil change 3,000 or 5,000 miles?

I'm not sure what you mean by "before it's time?" I think this is one of those market driven decisions. Yes, there will be government incentives that drive demand but for the most part we, as consumers, will be able to choose the type of vehicle we buy for quite some time. I have a plug in...
  2. Oil change 3,000 or 5,000 miles?

It is a difficult job, but inaction is not a solution. I am hopeful for new technology to solve/improve the current situation. Check out the YouTube Engineering Explained channel. He has gone into great depth on the amount of pollution created in manufacturing/maintaining/driving gas and...
  3. Oil change 3,000 or 5,000 miles?

While my brothers log book is quite extensive he doesn't mention if he switched to synthetic. When I have the oil and filter changed I use full synthetic. Now that the truck is primarily a driveway ornament (for that matter all of our vehicles are garage queens) the oil change interval is very...
  4. Oil change 3,000 or 5,000 miles?

We also have a plug in hybrid. Electric cars are definitely the future. The US needs to build up the infrastructure to support it. I think we've bought a tank of gas every four months. With a full tank and full charge the car will go over 600 miles.
  5. Oil change 3,000 or 5,000 miles?

In inherited a 4.0L 1999 Ranger XLT 4x4 with tow package and automatic trans. from my younger brother. He changed the oil every 3,000 miles. the truck now has 270,000 miles and the engine still makes over 9:1 compression in each cylinder. My brother was sort of compulsive about service and even...
  6. Terrain management upgrade?

I completely agree. I was in a situation with only three wheels on the ground. Without a locking rear diff there may not have been any forward progress.
  7. Seat Covers

I got he seat covers that came with the Ranger package from the dealership (floor mats F&R, cargo net and seat covers). The floor mats are perfect on the front, the rear (supercab) not so much, cargo net as expected, seat covers maybe 4 or 5 out of 10. Tried them on twice and put them back in...
  8. Post your off-road pics.

    Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022 You've heard of 4-wheelin'. Here is some 3-wheelin'. I think that's maximum articulation.
  9. What did you do to your Ranger today?

Uploaded a video from our trail run Saturday, Jan. 8.
  10. San Diego area off-road trips

dondon, I agree about the speed and visibility. Didn't want to fall too far behind and get lost. I've go to secure the bits floating around in the truck bed, what a racket!
  11. Ranger Meetup at Diablo's Drop Off

dondon, super cool frame grab! At the limit of articulation. Video is up on YouTube.
  12. Ranger Meetup at Diablo's Drop Off

Thanks for catching the video on the DDO gatekeeper.
  13. What did you do to your Ranger today?

We did have fun. Took our time had a light lunch after the Diablo Drop Off and continued out to Fish Creek. Total of 25 miles. Two steep descents and one gate keeper obstacle. No problem for a stock XLT with tow package.
  14. San Diego area off-road trips

I was (still am) a noob. Trail was great fun. a few pucker moments at Diablo Drop and the gate keeper to the drop. Stock XLT with tow package made it just fine.
  15. What did you do to your Ranger today?

I got my ranger dirty in Anza Borrego with five others.
  16. San Diego area off-road trips

A few more from the very enjoyable day. One of the rangers got wet but I think it'll shrink in the sun. I'm editing a video and will post it up Sunday or Monday.
  17. San Diego area off-road trips

Okay, checked with the wife and got the blessing to go. See you Saturday.
  18. San Diego area off-road trips

Just found this thread. I'm deciding whether to drive down early tomorrow and meet up at the departure area for the trail run. My decision is whether to tell my wife what I'm thinking or ask for forgiveness later. Plus side Did my chores yesterday. Too cold for a long bike ride. Want to go...
  19. Terrain management upgrade?

I can confirm your response. When you cycle through the Terrain Management options by pushing the TM button it goes through the off-road options without ever engaging 4L or the rear locker. 1) Normal (2H) 2) Grass gravel (4H) 3) Mud ruts (4h) 4) Sand (4H) I didn't pay close attention, but I...
