We lost our English shepherd Alfie on the 31st from kidney disease. Alfie was like a border collie with an attitude. He was a handful, but with great challenges come great rewards. Here he sits out in front of the Ranger, probably 9 years old at the time of the photo.
Alfie left a such a void...
Sounds somewhat similar to my situation except that I'm not at altititude so the weak turbo didn't manifest as much.
Man, I would get a second estimate from an independent who works on Fords. It ain't rocket surgery to replace a turbo. Bet you can get that labor cost down considerably.
I agree
Yep, I agree. I really like to know what's going on, and I like to ask questions. I was a little frustrated over my conversation with the service advisor. The shop loves feedback, so I'm going to suggest: bring the tech in to explain exactly what he found if the advisor can't be more...
Generally speaking, I trust this dealer not to give me a runaround. It's a small-town outfit with one store that has been in business for about 50 years. Looking under the hood, the turbo appears to have been replaced. If it really needed to be replaced is another question.
I just went through this myself -- 2021 model with 44k miles. I got a whole new turbo under warranty, repair was done Wednesday.
In mid-December I got codes p0299 and P2ab9 with wrench and check-engine icons on the dash. My local dealer couldn't schedule me in until mid-January -- at that point...
Ford's hybrid system has proved pretty reliable, mainly because it's modeled after Toyota's Synergy system. The fact that you have a Toyota pickup that buyers will lust for, I'd sell it now for top dollar before the economy crashes.
I think the Maverick hybrid will prove more reliable than the...
As has been mentioned, combustion produces water. To keep it from pooling in the muffler I punched a 3/16-inch hole in the bottom at the low point to serve as a drain.
I had these codes pop up last week. Of course the local dealer is on holiday time, so I won't be able to get in until the middle of next month. Meanwhile, the check engine light has gone out and performance seems to be normal. I assume the wastegate code will still be in the system when I...
I like Humble Mechanic's buddy Paul from Deutsche Auto Parts. His style is amusing, but my experience with VW/Audi has not been great. So I'm not too interested in his subject matter. He did do a review of spray-in valve cleaner. He didn't convince me.
I follow him too, but it seems like he's mostly about F-150s. That said, he's not terribly far from me, and if I needed a big-ticket repair out of warranty I would look him up.
I like South Main Auto. Eric knows his stuff and shares some personality. Plus, I relate to his Rust Belt orientation.
Another YouTuber who is just plain likable is Watch Wes Work. He's fixing rusty snowplow trucks a lot of the time, but he occasionally gets into some interesting fabrication...
And, the filter replacement is a lot more labor intensive than the flush. My dealer quoted me something like $650 to drop the pan and replace the filter; the flush was about half that.
Wife drives a 2007 Prius. I had a trim shop install seat heaters -- Toyota didn't offer them as an option. The process was pretty painless as far as I can tell. The biggest issue was where to install the on-off switches. I ended up telling them to use a switch blank on the driver's side of the...
My personal opinion after babysitting a historically troublesome BMW 5hp30 transmission to 300k miles is this: I did a spill-and-fill with the bimmer ever 30k with a filter change every 60k. In retrospect, the filter probably didn't need a change that often.
I had a fluid flush done on my...
Funny, I have lived in my rural Wisconsin home for 36 years and I recall exactly two occasions when I wished I had a generator. Meanwhile, the local factories at Kohler and Generac are cranking them out for the less fortunate.
