Installed the passenger side today. I have most of the off-road equipment ready to install, but I’m waiting on some parts to help with mounting on the MAPS panels. Also, RotoPax finally got their FuelPax back in stock.
Sadly, Ford has no intention on making this easy. On my 2012 Ford Raptor, they included 4 aux lighting switches in the cab - however, they ran wires to behind the glove box from the switches and they ran wires thru the firewall to the engine bay, but they did not connect the wires.
The...
Installed my driver side yesterday, working on the passenger side today. LineX did me no favors by spraying my tie-downs and the rubber grommets. This install would be super easy if I didn't have to cut around all the LineX to remove the tie-downs and grommets.
You can splice into the wires that lead to the fuse box, but fuse taps are widely used. The taps can be a pain, but they work well. There is no single terminal to leach off of for ignition, the battery is the only positive terminal, and ground can be taken off of almost any metal grounded to the...
I purchased the Putco bulkhead M.A.P.S. panel a couple of weeks ago. It arrives tomorrow.
I wasn't impressed with Putco's side panels (design, mounting, coverage, or cost). I struggled with the options from Valhalla and BuiltRight. While the BuiltRight cost a lot less, I concluded from the...
What Glocker said. I do a lot of river crossings and even the grommet in the firewall can leak water into the cab if not above the waterline, or sealed properly. It happened once in my Raptor and I had to remove my floormat and use fans to dry out the carpet. It's easy to not even realize water...
There's not a different work around for the faux-Raptor grille. That grill is plastic just like the OEM grille and the RTR grille. The ACC module will work through the plastic, including the F O R D letters. I've even heard that people with "thin" metal mesh grilles have had success - but metal...
If you review this whole thread, you will see what the bracket looks like with and without the ribbed cover installed. Also there are some basic instructions on how to remove the plastic cover.
I can't tell by your pics if the ACC module is 100% perpendicular to the ground, but it should be...
I think the two options have their pros/cons.
The drivers side grommet is very easy to access from the cab side, doesn't require removing anything, and dumps you right by the fuse box. It is a little hard to reach from the engine bay.
The passenger side is easy to access once you remove the...
You need to pull it out and remove that ribbed plastic piece that sits in front of the sensor. That piece is used to protect the sensor from road debris, but now you’ve got that piece and the grille mounted in front of the sensor. I’m guessing it’s just too much material to penetrate reliably...
Why yes, yes it was a PITA running that wire to driver side! My Ford Raptor had gaping holes under the tray, but the Ranger is packed tight under there.
If you guys are looking for a very sturdy, less expensive lightbar mount, I believe Ford or some other vendors sell a tubular mount that uses your tow hook mounting bolts. I think it resembles a tiny bull bar. I’ll try to find a pic.
Some observations from an avid off-road enthusiast:
- The lights you buy from Amazon, that seem reasonably priced, are NOT waterproof. Eventually you will get condensation behind the lens, or water intrusion. Rigid, Baja Designs, etc. are 100% waterproof. I've forged many rivers with Rigid...
Are you guys updating your firmware?? I see it says for Tech Support Use Only.
Although I did notice it updated the FW after I updated the device and connected it to my truck. But still no option to change tire size. I'm running 5 Star tunes.
I’ve got two in my cart, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. Shipping for $60 seems a little pricey, and I’m not sure why these are almost double the price of the BuiltRight version made for a Tacoma. Visually I can’t see what causes them to be so expensive, but I’m not familiar with either...
John, I’m glad to hear you say that. I know lots of people like the faux-Raptor grille. I owned a Raptor for 7 years, so I would have a difficult time putting it on a Ranger. The other factor is that too many people have installed the FORD grille, so it’s not unique. I try not to be a follower.
You are correct I think, they do not want to sell them. I assume they save those for the grilles and for the RTR Ranger builds. You can buy their vents without the logo only.
I actually have the factory bezel in magnetic. I struggled deciding which bezel to use - the new Absolute Black I had paint-matched, or the original Magnetic Gray one. In the end I stayed all black.
