  1. Frozen Windshield Washer Fluid

some of the cheap stuff that isnt supposed to freeze does I've had cheap -20 freeze at around zero. Where did you find -90 winshield fluid?? I've only seen up to -50.
  2. Tuning the Ford Ranger 2.3 Ecoboost

Turbosmart claims theirs is good for 30 plus psi and the stock one is weak but that's probably a marketing scheme. What's your opinion on vent to atmosphere VS recirculation/bypass valve? I know with the latter it can be hard to vent enough air in high hp engines but I've heard they help with...
  3. How bad is the open diff in the snow?

IDk if they still make them but pacemark snowtrakker tires are the best snow tires I have ever had. They were really cheap too. I think they only came on up to 15 maybe 16 inch rims and had only a few truck sizes. It's a shame because they were amazing. I had them on a 96 f150 straight 6 and I...
  4. Tuning the Ford Ranger 2.3 Ecoboost

do you have an aftermarket blow off valve or does the stock one handle that much psi? I got the turbosmart vent to atmosphere for my ranger for when I start playing with boost, and for the sound. It's corny but I like it lol
  5. Tuning the Ford Ranger 2.3 Ecoboost

Ahh I see. I do a lot opf turbo tuning on snowmobiles and I like to stick around 11.7:1 and 12:1 max. I could take it further but that way it's safe and really it's not a big difference in power running a few points leaner. If its my own sled that I'm racing short distances I lean it out further...
  6. Tuning the Ford Ranger 2.3 Ecoboost

you think you could lean it out a bit more in the higher rpm range or is that a safety measure?
  7. Uncomfortable

I'm completely aware of that. 45 psi however is not going to cause someone injury. Also I'm a powersports mechanic and constantly have sleds or atvs on the back and also often tow trailers. My point was 45psi is good for me and not at all dangerous. In fact I have always ran my tires 45 to 50...
  8. Service department woes (need to vent!)

Ya if something happens where it would void the warranty I'd take it in but I wouldn't be happy about it. As a mechanic myself I have seen the way some of my peers have treated other people's things and that makes me very skeptical. There are good mechanics out there though.
  9. Service department woes (need to vent!)

I can't stand anyone working on my stuff. I have found as long as you keep receipts and a log of maintenance you should be fine. I always keep a log book and write down everything even the type/amount of gas when I fill up. Might be overkill but it can come in handy. I guess it depends on the...
  10. Tuning the Ford Ranger 2.3 Ecoboost

thank you for sharing this information it's rare to find someone who is this knowledgeable and also willing to share their research.
  11. Water/Meth Injection Kit

definitely an interesting idea I'd love to see the final setup if you do it and I'm always interested in reading about tuning methods. I do mostly atvs, motorcycles, snowmobiles and I'm pretty much the only mechanic in my area that does tuning the other shops don't understand it at all except...
  12. Got Smacked by a Coward in Tehachapi

I'm the same way I park way away from other cars IDC if I have to walk a bit further walking is good for ya. I'd be so pissed but at least they got him on camera! As for the Tacoma I cannot stand Toyota seats I find them really uncomfortable. I'm a huge Ford guy anyway so comfy seats wouldn't...
  13. How bad is the open diff in the snow?

I live on tug hill upstate NY we get an average of 200 inches of snow and i have FX4 with the locker. I have tested the diff lock quite extensively and I find it quite impractical for winter driving it's more for rock climbing and certain off road situations. When its locked the rear end slides...
  14. Uncomfortable

Just so you guys know the 18" hankook dynapro at-m that comes on the Ranger has a max rating of 80 psi. It's usually somewhere on the tire in small print. Boy I was reallllyyy pushing it at 45 psi. Jeeze I could have gotten someone hurt!
  15. Uncomfortable

You do realize that a guide is exactly what the psi on the door jam is right? it's not the max psi the tire can safely operate at it's the recommended psi for normal conditions.
  16. Uncomfortable

Never heard that but it makes sense. If they were higher i would have let some air out but 45 isnt gonna hurt anything.
  17. Uncomfortable

i have the 18" hankooks and my dealer had mine all at 45 too even though it said 35. I still found the truck to ride very comfortable and never ended up letting air out. Now that it's winter they are just under 40
  18. Ford Tough? My turn . . .

The upper a-arms are made from aluminum and while they are probably quite strong a good built steel one would be better. I forget the brand but one of the companies making lift kits has some nice steel upper a-arms in the kit.
