I posted previously but since this has gotten so long, I plasti-dipped my front valance without evening removing it. The only reason to really remove is if you want to swap out sensors. I can report after a few months of wear and tear, pressure washes, and hot sun the plasti-dip still looks...
Hey Blue Oval, check out the post I dip regarding plasti-dipping and maybe give it another shot. Try it on some scrap metal or wood first to get down the technique and then follow my steps for coats and you should have no problem...
RussB - I highly recommend you checkout my DIY post for how I blacked out all my emblems, grills, bumper... It gets you a far better finish than flex seal as it was designed for this purpose and is also removable should you ever want to change color or go back to stock...
You certainly can but I have found the plasti-dip glossifier to be a bit hazy... maybe that’s just me plus I prefer the matte look. Next will be the rims... I think I am going to do matte black with orange inlays somehow. Will post pictures once I get to them.
I popped the emblem of using a trim removal tool and the unscrewed and removed the bezel the emblem sits on and took that off and removed backup camera. Used Bondo on the emblem to smooth out all the ridges and sanded down to a smooth surface. I then plasti-dip’d the bezel(chrome) black and the...
I figure since I have done all this and seem to keep reposting on other threads how to do this and posting pictures I would just put all in one thread so hopefully all can find it. (Maybe pin to the top of forum?).
As I have said in other posts, anyone can plasti-dip this stuff with a little...
For those wanting to plasti-dip the front valance/grill here are some pics. Its super simple, just practice the spraying to get the coats down on a scrap piece of cardboard or something and then give it a shot. Don't pay someone to do this. Worst case, if it looks terrible you can peel/rub it...
Hey Jon, I decided on the Access “Vanish” cover as it’s the lowest profile roll-up cover I could find which is what I wanted. Bought it from the manufacturer Access and their customer service is great. Install was pretty easy (had wife help me). Here is the link to their site...
So far just some paint(plasti dip) work (matte black grill, front bumper, fenders, gills, and emblems and orange [go mango] emblem and eyecatcher inlays), tinting (lexen pre-cut tint 20% on front / 35% on rears/back [ https://www.lexenauto.com/All-Precut-Tint-p/all.htm ] ), tail lights tinted (...
Posted in another thread but since this is specific to the eyecatchers, I got the matte black ones and the plasti dip’d them orange. Very easy to put on and get lined up.
Got ya. Yea so key is to tape off about an inch or so away from the edge of the gill and lay down a light (50% coverage) first coat. Then (I wait 15/20 mins between coats) lay down 5/6 “wet” coats which mean wet enough for full coverage but not so wet that it drips or pools. You want to coat the...
It sounds like you may be going at this the wrong way. Are you trying to lay down an accent over top of plasti dip gills or are you just trying to plasti dip the entire gill(s)?
Haha turns out wasn’t needed. First time I taped over but second time (first time I peeled to early) I was frustrated and forgot. Turned out it was easy to just peel away and not worth the time taping off.
No need to remove, you just tape off (included a few pics below) roughly an inch around whatever you want to plasti dip. Then put down the light first coat as prescribed and then I waited about 20 mins between coats doing 6 coats n total. The key I have found is to do the second coat onward...
Just so you have an idea, I went with the BedRug Impact (Mat Only) https://bedrug.com/all-products/2019/ford/ranger which I am very impressed with. Have already done several lumber pickup trips and dump runs with it and seems very resilient yet at the same time it was very comfortable on...
