Obvious question, but have you ever changed your coolant? If so, did you insure all the air pockets were evacuated? The days of draining and filling are no longer reliable, air pockets trapped in the top of the engine cooling system cause hot spots and play havoc with your cooling system...

It will happen if it is overfilled at any temp. It all depends on just how overfilled it is.
