I suspect you will quickly damage the car battery. It’s not designed to power accessories like a deep cycle battery is. But maybe that’s not your plan?

Adam, I don’t know for sure about the Ranger (it’s still too new to me) but my hybrid Acura wouldn’t shut off, at least in the winter, until it had warmed up. It makes sense to me that there might be some minimum coolant temperature associated with start/stop operation but maybe not.
Here’s pics of both sides of my truck. No rubbing, more like about 1/2 inch clearance. I wonder what happened to yours. Hopefully it’s easy to fix.
