A few of the toys I build, modify or work with. A few mini bikes, a rifle being bedded, the teardrop camper, a couple of knives, a cabinet, you know, I just can't stop working on things when I'm retired.
Not exactly a "gun" but a weapon, just a bit old school by today's standards. Red oak shaft, Cold Steel point. These are 2 different spears, but basically are made the same way. Hollow shafts, octagon shape & tapered at the tail...
I use a 5 1/2" drop to pull our teardrop trailer. In all cases with a pick-up truck & trailer, the most important thing is that both the truck & the trailer are as level as possible when the load is ready to leave the yard & are matched to run as well as possible. This gives the maximum control...
Here's the build log for mine, if you have some time to look through it. Lots of pictures & some good input from other forum members on what NOT to do for a teardrop.

If you need to access storage under a mattress, a solid foam mattress is going to be difficult to lift in a small area with one person. It's not impossible, but very awkward if the mattress isn't in place and installed in sections. If you could cut the foam to match the storage section size, it...
Making another blade. This one is AEB-L steel (what you shave with in the morning) heat treated at HRC 60.5. I've set up the scales in this picture for the next step, epoxy for structural fastening. I use the screws & then small clamps to press things flat & let the bond cure with a slow setting...
I've owned our truck since 2019 & I'm still impressed with the overall build quality, performance, mileage & general driving. We got the XLT & it's more truck than we wanted to buy, but used with 400 miles, it was too good to pass up. The extra features are nice (bun warmers for cold mornings...
Our neighbor needed some cutting, wedges shaped for him to make something. Turns out this is what he wanted, so I made the mold (an Egyptian obelisk to be poured in concrete, wtf???). Not sure why, but here's what he wanted. Me & the mold, somewhere in northern New Mexico...
Probably an old FN model 98 variant, a commercial version of the 98. Very nice with the set triggers & -06 cartridge. Looks really nice & should shoot well enough.
Just finished this, the most recent Swedish Mauser (6.5X55). Boyd's laminated birch stock, new stepped military issue barrel fastened to the original 1899 action, Burris 6.5X20-50mm, hand-loads at 100 yards. This was the first trip to the range yesterday, 4 shots into 3/4" at 100 yards, I'm...
Building another model 1896 Swedish Mauser (6.5X55mm, 1899 Oberndorf), with a laminated stock & a little metal work to make it a bit nicer. Will be blued & have a scope...
For me, at least very recently, I've had more trouble with USPS than with FedEx or UPS. Case in point, I had an order which was placed on December 3rd with USPS priority, it arrived on December 17th.
Currently, I placed an order for my son on December 8th for a Christmas present, it is now...
We moved from Tucson to Raton, NM 2 years ago. Real estate prices are much cheaper, plenty of houses are still going pretty reasonably & it's not 105 or 110 6 months out of the year (6,500' of elevation here). We now have snow melt for water (not the calcified limestone of Tucson's ground...
A mouse can squeeze through a crack the thickness of a pencil. The only thing they can't actually flatten more is the skull, everything else can compress pretty flat to wiggle into openings & gaps...
Pack rats in the desert: Clean out their middens first. Mix 1 cup flour, add 2 tablespoons Portland cement, add salt & sugar to taste. Set the dry mixture outside in a jar lid & put a jar lid of water nearby. Replenish as needed. Takes about 6 weeks to get rid of them, but it works...
Some new bathroom shelves, they need more paint still but are hung on the wall. Storage in this old house is limited, so having a bit more space is always good. Hard to make stuff which fits with 1940, so I figured steel, simple & basic was best. We still have the original steel cabinets in the...
Mostly freeway, 75-79 mph with premium on board, last 2 tanks were 23.3 & 24.4 mpg. The 23.3 included some steep hills & up to 9,000' in Colorado. On the flat with just freeway driving it was over 24, no AC & cruise set at 78 mostly. In town it drops to 22 mpg.
J, thanks for this info. I'm planning on putting the relay in front near the battery location. I'll be using a 4 pin 30A relay & feeding 2 small high-output horns which mount in the grill area. There's a cross-bar with two slots below the grill, which will accept the horns without any...
