We are having the same experience with our Escape PHEV. Love it. Before that we had a 2015 Fusion hybrid and it was the most reliable trouble free car I ever owned.

No need to jack it up. Run your fingers up along the spring where the breaks are shown in the pictures posted to this thread. You will easily feel the open gap from the break.
Just got back home from Florida snowbirding and checked my leaf springs. Sure enough, the spring on the right side of my Ranger is broken exactly like the pictures posted in this thread.
