I agree with Steve, although mine took longer than 5 minutes. Fwiw Jim, I did mine when it was ~5* outside. My main concern was to not break the tabs on the plastic cover (they did not break). Just warmed the interior until I was comfortable and got it done.
Got one of the little bastards on 10/8. Thankfully it just took out my driver's side driving light. Still got some hair stuck to the leading edge of the D/S 'step" as a reminder.
Not to jump in, but jumping in anyhow, I also used the small bracket. I did sand the paint off (to bare metal), when checked with meter it showed no resistance. After that I figured it was a good grounding spot.
Another prime concern is cone excursion on the under-seat sub. I visited a rather high-end install shop, where the shop manager showed me what a happens if the sub (a W7 )can't do its job properly (the driver motor or motors get fried). I used .75" spacers under the seat mounts to give the sub...
I went the same route as hookem57, except went with alpine/kicker/audio control products. Quick question for tcour: how did you overcome (if you had it) the dreaded speaker popping with the ktp-445u amp? I installed one and the popping drove me nucking futs.
I have a Ranger Station banner on my 2001. Wipers have gone over that one for more than five years and it still looks fine. A lot will depend on the quality of material Ford uses.
