On my 2019 Ranger the rubber in the shift knob got gummy and I ended up removing it but now I'm trying to find a replacement part.

Anyone modified or replaced their shift knob trim? Anyone know where I can source a new piece?

Thanks

Actually I purchased both the leather cover and this carbon fiber. I installed the carbon fiber and really like it. I rest my hand on the shifter a lot and it is smooth and comfortable. If you install one the instructions recommend you use stronger double sided tape. I just thoroughly cleaned the existing area with acetone and applied the cover as is. That was 6 months ago and have not had any problems.

Did this go over the existing rubber? Or did you have to remove the rubber first?

That’s a good question. I’d like to know aswell.. looking at the product as close as I can (via pictures available on Amazon.) it appears to be overlays that adhere to the original material fixed in those locations…(looking at the carbon fiber one.).. so you may have to adhere the pice that came off back to the shifter (or inside the overlay CF piece.. then glue it back on to your shifter.

^ this one appears to be one you cover the original shifter and stitch it together on the front lower part of the shifter handle…… (for firmer feeling you’d want to likely glue the soft part back on aswell so it doesn’t leave a void where the cover could collapse the material into… possibly leaving a unsightly dent in the finished look.)…. Anyway I’m just making assumptions about the product as I don’t have one of either.

I ordered the little rubber trim from Ford’s parts website for about $10 and it fit perfectly. Took around a week to get. You can also check eBay or Amazon for a generic trim kit if you want it faster.

It easily fits over the existing rubber on the shifter. Like I mentioned I cleaned the entire area rubber with acetone to remove any oils from my gripping it and applied it as it came. It has held tight.
