Even though it was kinda a downgrade, we ended up with a 2019 Ranger TruXedo TruXport 5ft Bed tonneau cover in our hands, so we decided to do an install on our 2019 Ranger Project Truck before we uninstalled it again for other fin and games. A 6ft bed version is also available. The install video is now up on our YouTube Channel.

I kinda prefer roll-ups over hard-folding to keep the rear window clear and to hurt the ol' wallet less, but opinions vary even around Stage 3. I have a TruXedo Deuce on my truck that I love, though the TruXport definitely is a bit more basic than the Deuce series.

How do you install the bulk head bracket with the factory drop in bedliner?

According to TruXedo's instructions, you'd have to drill or cut some access holes to get to the screw locations.

I prefer the roll up type covers as well. For the same reason that they don't block the rear window and they don't take up space in the bed like the retractable ones do.

I've watched two different videos - one where Jason holds the washer between the bed and cab - then another where the person is installing Pro X15 and he just pushes the well nut through the hole and then puts the bed rail up and connects that way. Are these both correct (not sure I can get my fat fingers behind there. Does the Pro X15 and the this one attach differently?

Thank you

That wasn't me, that was Noah. Noah does have the advantage of being a jumble of sticks held together by sinew, however.

We followed TruXedo's instructions, so it's tough to say if another method gets you the "ol' good 'nough" install or not.

You don't really have to to do a lot of maneuvering between the bed and the cab, though. Wrapping some needle nose pliers in some tape should at least let you position that flex nut thing in the right position for the screw without scratching your paint.

Jason, After doing a lot of research on soft tonneau's, this one is under serious consideration. Other than rolling it up to the front of the bed, can this whole unit be removed completely from the bed without much of a problem? I need something that can be completely removed and reinstalled at certain times without a hassle.

Thanks,
Paul

There are six clamps that would have to be removed in order to remove the cover itself. I installed this exact cover a couple months ago on my 2021 Ranger. Works well for the price. Just make sure you install the bulkhead seal exactly as outlined or it will leak water (don't ask me how I know this). I would pull up the directions on TruXedo's website for the seal installation because their pictures are much easier to see. The little "lip" goes towards the rear and the seal gets lined up with the rear of the bulkhead as well.

It's not the easiest tonneau cover to remove, but since the mounting rails are a bit different than TruXedo's other tonneaus (like the slightly more expensive Lo Pro QT), it is easier to TOTALLY remove.
If you only care about the actual roll-up section, then the Lo Pro QT, Deuce, etc. are actually easier to remove, though their rail sections stay on the truck.

I pop the roll-up section of my Deuce off my truck post camping trips to hose it off without futzing with the clamps.

Great info! My issue is living in a hot dry desert area where the heat takes a toll on everything. In re-thinking this, if I get the the tonneau that I inquired about, I can probably just keep it rolled up all the way to the front until I need to unroll it for use rather than removing the whole unit. That way, most of it will be insulated from the sun? Probably coating it with a protectant will help it survive?

Thanks.

As long as you use some sort of tonneau-specific cleaner every once in a while (i.e. TruXedo’s own, Tyger, etc.), you’ll come out ahead of most other tonneau owners.

My truck lives outside in the Phoenix area, and after four years, the TruXedo Deuce has maybe lost some color, but the vinyl itself is still in good shape. I clean it when I wash the truck, and hit with some generic vinyl protector every once in a while.

I would be careful about keeping it rolled, though. You’ll expose the underside of the tonneau and may make it get creased/brittle, which may cause you issues when you want to cover your bed.
