If you are going to tow at all either stay stock and use premium fuel(as the owners manual states) or if you do decide to tune it only use a tow rated tune. Tow rated tunes include Ford Performance(yes you can tow with it), Livernois tow tune(has a little more power than Ford Performance and its my personal favorite) along with any other tune company that offers a tow specific tune.

As a side note I suggest going with a tune that will let you pick a range of fuel instead of one particular octane. The reason I State this is simply for the fact when traveling across the United States you will see different octane ratings in different states. Could you run a 93 octane tune on 91? Probably but probably not best to do so if can be avoided.

Pretty much all of the major tuners will have a Daily/Tow version available in all the different octane levels. Before you go dropping $500 + on a tuner box and custom tunes, and are not doing so already perhaps try just running 93 Octane and enable tow or S mode for a tank or two and see how it goes. It's been shown that just running 93 Octane fuel will produce a nice little bump in performance. If you are not happy with that then you can either look at getting a BDX tuner like BullyDog module and run the prepacked tunes that come with it. They are decent tunes and will provide a good increase in power and not sacrifice drivability running them. Then if you're still wanting more then you can look at custom tunes like 5 Star, Unleashed, Livernois, or Ford for starters. Each one of these are good and depending on mods already done can really produce impressive performance. 5 * (I have run them for two years now) is a little harsh with shifting on their 93 performance tunes but you can have them tweak the transmission shift points to not be so aggressive. Their 93 Daily Tow is on par with Ford Performance. Unleashed (from reviews) offers some of the best overall drivability and support. Livernois has been around for a long time are also good, but I have not looked into them much so only know based on other peoples reviews. The Ford Performance tune will not be as punchy as the other aftermarket tuners, but the best part won't void any factory warranties as it's done at by the dealership.

Do your research and make the decision that best suits your needs.

I have tried the SCT canned tunes that come on their hand held devices like the BDX on a couple different vehicles. I find that the throttle response is to abrupt for my taste on a daily driven vehicle. Where as tunes from Ford Performance, Steeda and Unleashed are perfect from a driveability stand point. The customer service Torrie at Unleashed provides is second to none.

I decided to go with livernois but I had to order a laptop with windows 10 to get the tunes. $600 for livernois and $160 for laptop. hope it’s worth it and doesn’t brick my ecu.

It wont brick your truck. I have Livernois and love it!! If I remember correctly I have about 34,000 miles with them all together and most of it has been the tow tune. Like said I love it!!

As a guess it is similar to stock. Just understand that due to the nature of the 10R80 it will take time for the transmission to learn after you install the tune. After the main process is done(roughly 3,000 miles) you will be fine.

After the tune simply drive it. Dont hesitste to get on it and dont be hesitant to keep it easy either. Mine is smooth and I like it!!

Most ppl say these tunes feel like sport in shift logic and RPMs hold somewhere in-between normal RPMs and Sport mode where it will hold the gear a bit longer. Seems to be a good compromise. I am leaning towards Livernois tunes. Not for the power bump but for the smoother trans logic (okay I lied and the 91/93 performance tune :p for some fun in the desert/sandy areas.)
