166 miles. All 60-70 mph. Computer said 29 mpg. Yes 29. My math said 26.4. Very pleased.

Do you have a base level ranger 2wd with skinny tires? I’m gonna guess that you are not in a FX4. Or you drove down a very large mountain and had a lot of coasting in you 166 miles or maybe a tail wind.166 miles. All 60-70 mph. Computer said 29 mpg. Yes 29. My math said 26.4. Very pleased.
I seem to be stuck at 25.7mpg. Never appears to move. Of course, I only drive 10 miles to work. 2 redlights. I have never reset it in 700 miles.Same drive every day 50/50 highway city 25.5 mpg.

Fuelly.com list hundreds of 5G rangers. And majority of 5G rangers get the 20 mpg. And that is never a computer number it is always calculated by the true gallons to fill and current odometer which is way more accurate.
I’m all for good numbers for anyone but 29 mpg is not a real number that can be duplicated all the time. Occasionally for only 166 miles, possible but not always probable.
That's what all people who get subpar mileage say. haha Excuses, excuses. hahaDo you have a base level ranger 2wd with skinny tires? I’m gonna guess that you are not in a FX4. Or you drove down a very large mountain and had a lot of coasting in you 166 miles or maybe a tail wind.

I'm in a XLT FX4 with the stock Hankooks and can easily, and consistently, average 27-29mpg on road trips. Over the entire ~500 miles of each tank too. The only problem is our truck doesn't take many road trips, at least not ones where we aren't towing. So at least for me, that's where the lower lifetime average comes into play. If I didn't spend a majority of my miles towing and/or driving through snow and ice at below 0F temps, then my lifetime average would probably be up around 25mpg. All hand calculated and dumped in Fuelly.
The thing with Fuelly is it shows the lifetime average of a particular vehicle, not the extremes on either end, unless you really dig into the particular data. So for me for instance, my max is 28mpg, and my min is 13mpg. There could be a lot of people like me (though I know there aren't) who get:
28mpg (highway) ~5% of the time,
23mpg (city) ~15% of the time,
20mpg (towing) ~40% of the time,
20mpg (off-roading) ~5% of the time, and
16-18mpg (winter) ~35% of the time.
So just because people get bad mileage more often, doesn't mean they don't also get good mileage too. Or at least could if they were doing a lot of unladen road trips.
Exactly. In that case I would expect you to be able to maintain a high average. High 20s on the highway, could even breach 30mpg if you work at it. I've gotten close but haven't gotten the chance to really hypermile it yet. I know there are some on here who have gotten over 30mpg with their 4x4 trucks. That combined with low to mid 20s in the city should net you pretty good. And since I don't tow........
No matter what I do it, seems I'm doing a constant 18mpg, not happy.
