First of all, greetings to you all from NZ.
I've got a 2021 XLT with the 2.0l biturbo (that's the high performance version here) engine coming here at the end of August and I want to give it better offroad capability without doing too much.
I understand that 265/70R17 is the max tyre size you can do on stock rims without any other mods. I did speak to the guy here at the Ford centre and he reckons it's fine as it's just putting the Raptor tyres (BF Goodrich KO2) on. He mentioned maybe having to give a little bit of a nudge on the alignment to get it to fit. Apparently it's usually the left front or back that has the issue.
I want some definitive settling of my mind as I am overthinking this and I can't nag my local Ford dealership, haha.
1) Will it be no different offroad with the bigger tyres? i.e. With large bumps/divots/whatever, the tyre isn't going to reach the top of the wheel well?
2) What are the legit performance drawbacks? We have a Ranger FX4 Max over here that is an XLT/Raptor hybrid (XLT with a 20mm front lift and Raptor wheels/tyres with a few other fun things) and I drove it over the weekend. Very nice. Only difference between that and what I want to do would be the 20mm front lift (why do they do this?) and the wheels have more offset for a wider track.
3) I can't wait to post pics. I've driven highly strung performance Hondas up until now and I'm stoked about some decent torque.
Cheers guys, hope I've been clear!
