Anyone here tried Valvoline Max Life ATF for it's allegedly sealing properties?
The front driveshaft on my transfer case began to weep slightly for the last few months, and after returning from a recent camping trip I noticed it had actually developed into a drip - not a lot, but annoying none the less (drops on garage floor). My vehicle has done 99,000 Km ~ 60,000 miles.
A quick look around the Australian Ranger forum showed this to be not uncommon amongst PX1 Rangers, the seal was revised it seems, for PX2/3 series.
I considered fixing it properly, but that involves removing the bash plate, undoing the flange nut which Ford employs lowland gorillas to do up to a gazillion foot pounds of torque, and paying a small fortune to Ford for the part, as the revised seal has to be bought with a new driveshaft flange which had to be ordered in.
So I thought I would try Max Life. Drained out just over a litre of very dirty ATF, - so much for filled for life! Replaced with new fluid, cleaned up the mess and waited and watched.
Voila! two weeks later leak stopped! I'm impressed, a product which lived up to it's claims.
No doubt I will have to fix it correctly eventually but now I have plenty of time to chase down the parts and set a time to do it.
