I think its important to be honest with ourselves about or rides so hear goes, the good, bad and ugly. I have 10k miles on my 2019 Ranger XLT 4x4 CC, 9k of those miles are in the dirt, rocks and some terrain that most folks wont bring their new UTV/ATV on. Now, I do not believe that I abuse my truck, some would disagree, I dont ranch drive it just for the purpose of being stupid, I do however expect it to get me up or down the mountain. This year it has seen some of the rockiest climbs and descents it ever will along with ridiculous dirt and dust conditions. If you live out west you know what im talking about. Long story short, here's how she's holding up.
THE BAD --The dirt in the brakes noise sucks, the only way to get rid of the horrendous sound is to either wait for a good rain storm or take the wheels off and doosh the pads, rotors and calipers with two cans of brake cleaner, and we dont get many rain storms....If you haven't experienced this noise, it sounds like two trains side swiping each other, it only happens at certain brake pressures when you start braking. I now have a vibration in the steering wheel at highway speeds when I start any steering input, it started off very subtle and is getting worse, it only lasts for a few seconds, but I fear its in the front end or a drive line. The transmission is a little more hesitant from PARK now then when it was new and I can get a good clunk when switching between 4hi and 4low.
THE GOOD -- The lil Ranger with just 4x4 no FX package can hang with TRD Pro and FX4 all day, i did it and have pics to prove it, now there were times when sport mode and RPM had to take the place of slow creeping, but it got the job done. My Taco buddies always seem to be impressed with the smoothness and effortless off-roading capabilities. The transition from nasty off-road stuff to highway cruising is seamless. The interior room is always noticed by new passengers. My truck is Oxford white and after a car wash you would never know how much jungle and rocks this truck has been thru.
CONLUSION -- The Ranger has not let me down in the hills and if anything has exceeded my expectations considering i dont have a locking rear diff, and if your in the RPM, she digs for traction. Unfortunately im loosing some confidence in the lil Rangers long term reliability prospect, I can feel things in the drive train that are very subtle, but they are there. The vibration im getting in the steering wheel is coming to a head soon and im in the middle of hunting season and i had the vibration before and after new tires, so its not a balancing issue. I sold my trusty 1992 Toyota pickup 3VZE single cab hunting machine cuz i wanted 4 doors. That truck was an amazing piece of engineering and steady as a rock, it could climb a rope. Honestly Im not sure a new Taco, frontier, or Colorado would be any better than my Ranger, I dont believe anything new is made that great, every component seems to have an early expiration date compared to those 20- 30 years ago.
Not bashing the Ranger, just wanted you fellas to get an honest review from some hard core miles on my Ranger, im hanging onto it for now and hoping for the best. Guess I should add it has the Fox 2.0 suspension setup an 255/75/17s......
Happy Trails, dont forget to lock in the hubs....
