After cancellation of a number of events, the Cal4Wheel organization (the same people who put up the Winter FunFest) has deemed its annual High Sierra Poker Run safe enough to run - two days of wheeling around Shaver Lake, including one of my favorite trails, Bald Mountain (two versions over two days - Extreme, Not-Extreme). I did this trail a few years ago in a Frontier with no locker, and it made it to the top without too much drama (just a few hits on the skid plates and sliders ;-) ).
The dates are 09/04~09/07 - arrive Friday night, base camp, leave Sunday afternoon. Cost is $60 for first day (one run per day), and an addition $20 for second day (or something like that) - paid per vehicle. Accommodations are first-come-first-served disbursed camping at the foot of the trail (so I understand). For more official info., email Paul Brady at [email protected]
Recommended truck specs:
4x4 with 2" or higher lift over stock
Sliders and full-armor
Diff. lock highly-recommended
tough side-walled AT/MT tires
Communications: CB is preferred, but FRS/GMRS/Ham are fine, too - just bring SOMETHING.

Due to COVID, they've canceled their traditional group dinner and other activities to keep folks safe. I'm playing by ear for now, but the temptation is palpable....
