A month ago I had my windshield replaced. Yesterday a stone hit it. Need opinions if this can be repaired or if it needs replacement. This is the driver’s side.

I have insurance just trying to minimize the impact of another claim.

Second pic is distance from the top.

From my very limited experience that can be repaired. I think a crack can get several inches long before it is no longer a candidate for repair. I believe if you go on the websites for some of the national windshield repair companies they tell you the maximum length a crack can be to be a candidate for repair.

Geeze.. thought I had bad luck. Almost every new vehicle I got, got hit with a stone within the first 24 hours. But not a big hit like yours...
Not for nothing. IMHO... Ford's Ranger windshields are garbage.

I was told by a mobile glass repair guy, that if the chip has cracks coming out of it that are more than the size of a quarter, they will usually not be fixable.

Me, too. I've made it a week so far in my Ranger without a windshield crack. Longest for me in a long time.

Mine had a chip similar to that and when Safelite did the repair, it caused cracks on each side of the repair, then two days later it went 3/4 across the whole windshield. I requested an OEM replacement and luckily my insurance company will cover OEM if it's current year minus one, so I'm good until 2021 then I will have to pay the difference.

Safelite did the repair today and I paid ~$100 out of pocket to avoid a claim ding.

It looks marginally better. I’ll just live with it for now.

Hi Folks,

You think you have it bad with cracked windshields. Try having this happen to a prototype truck. I had one of the very first Windstar prototypes out of the vehicle build. Boss wanted to take it for a drive, so we headed over to the Dearborn test track. There was a segment of the low speed track that was under modification and had sawhorses across the area. Boss was not paying attention and ko'ed a sawhorse that flew up and through the windshield as well as trashing the hood and bumper facia. Total miles on this $2 million prototype....5 milles...Sheesh. Hood repair was no biggie, but getting another prototype Windshield proved to be a big mess. As the vehicle was to go to the Program Loads folks, we delivered it without a windshield while our Vehicle Control area made arrangements for a new windshield. It took about 3 or 4 weeks to get a replacement and coordinate with the Loads folks to have it installed.

Side bar. This is the same vehicle that had the rear axle ripped out of it on the pot hole course... A jinked prototype....Sigh....More program delays while the attachment brackets were redesigned properly due to a CAE mistake... (I believe there is another thread on the rear axle debacle)

Best,
