Why is the bulkhead an inch lower than the bedrails on the Gen 5 Ranger?

The only thing I can come up with...

The tonneau cover I bought, has a mounting bar which brings the front lip up even with the side rails.

The tonneau cover bar is as a result of the mismatch, not the cause.

There could be any number of reasons why the forward bulkhead is lower than the side rails. Hard to know for sure what the true answer is without seeing the design notes or talking with one of the engineers on the project.

Yea I agree, Was just curious if someone here knew the answer. Just seems a bit odd to me. I have never had a pickup that had this lol.

Is the step a result of having the plastic Bed Rail Guards so if the Plastic guards were removed it would be the same height? But of course I looked and if the plastic guards were removed there would be numerous holes in the top rails of the bed. I personally would rather not have the plastic guards but even when I bought my fiberglass cap it had to have a filler in the front at the bulkhead.
