SearchEd before posting but cannot find any prior postings on my issue. The passenger side vent has an annoying whistling that changes pitch when the fan speed is changed. The dealership recognizes the problem but says they will have to take the dashboard off to get to the problem. They are dragging their feet on doing the repair. Unfortunately the noise is loud enough that I can’t live with the issue. I am nervous about dealership taking the dashboard off and feel like I may receive more damage from proceeding with the repair. Any thoughts or experience with this problem?

Hi Jim,

I recommend a bit of diagnostics on your part....buy a cheap mechanics stethoscope and discard the diaphram and steel probe. Now you have a very directional NVH tool. Search the passenger side and when you radar in on the whistle, it might be a simple fix as a molding flash knocked off with a file or may direct you to the blower case where the filter is and reseating the filter and filter door might be the fix. I concur...you do not what the dealer to remove the dash...rattles will result in most cases....avoid at all cost....

Best,
Phil

Thanks for the advice. I will give this a try and see I can find the culprit. I just can’t get excited about tearing into the dash and the potential for more problems from the dealer.
Thanks again,

Jim

borescopes are pretty cheap these days.
buy one as well and probe the vents to see whats up.

afterwards, you're not a doctor, but you'll have a look anyways. work for beer money and save lives. perfect combo.

This is actually a good idea. I would gladly invest in borescope to help identify the problem. With the potential other uses … I have canceled my doctors appointment and ordered the borescope:oops:. Had no idea these could be purchased this cheap.
Thanks for the recommendation.
Jim
