First time ever using this product. I've read online that surface prep is the key. Sanding down and scuffing up the paint and the masking will make the product adhere better and last just as long as a spray in liner.

I haven't even finished yet. First coat wasn't dry enough to start the second coat right now so I'll do it in the morning.

Nerve racking scratching up your brand new truck bed. I removed the tailgate cover that hides the locking mechanism so I could paint it adequately and not get the screws all gunked up with Herculiner.

Interested to see how it turns out, looks like you are making great progress! Did you use any cleaner after you sanded it to get rid of the dust and any residual oils?

Yes,I used Xylene. It's also the only thinner you can use to thin Herculiner. It gets thick rather fast in humid weather.

I swept out the dust first with a broom, if I had an air compressor I'd probably do that. Otherwise just Xylene and some old useless microfiber towels.

So it turned out well, imo. In the front behind the cab I see it's a rad bit heavy when I pulled the masking tape. I'll consider sanding it flush or trimming it with a razor blade when it's dry and set. I still have to pull the masking tape off the cargo tie downs anyhow. I have just enough Herculiner for touch ups if needed. Once it's dry I need a damn car wash. Haha dust everywhere.

That looks really good and usually pics don't do anything justice. I have been pre planning some stuff and I've been researching the DIY bed liners, Raptor brand, but I think they tend to look a little to plasticky and hard. I only need light duty protection. Is the Herculiner a little more "rubberized" after curing? Did you roll it on or spray? I keep thinking it's worth a shot and if I'm not happy I'd drop $200 on a plastic drop in. That way I'd have a layer under it.....

The Herculiner is rubbery a bit yes. For instance, sliding items in and out of the bed is hard because it grips to the liner, which is a good thing. Things in the bed dont slide around anymore. And it's very sturdy, not even one scratch or mark after all this time, several new appliances for family, and hauling couches and home improvement junk around and it looks like new.
