My experience with about 5,000 miles and 5 star tunes is that the "daily tow/haul 87 octane" tune is better than the 87 performance tune and the mileage much better. I tow 5-7K trailers with my truck and the tune is excellent. Good mileage and good off the line torque.
I don't think that diagram is right. It doesn't show the signal coming from the high brake light. I don't see how taking it off the brake switch will allow the adaptive cruise and emergency braking to work. I spoke with the installer at some length about the install. He said the Ford...
UPDATE! I spoke at length with the electrical guy who was impressively educated. He said all the Rangers on the lot including the ones without the tow package had the 4 wires. He said he spent 2 hours trying to figure it out an finally realized the wires simply weren't there. I asked him about...
Update on the brake controller: I took the car to the Ford dealer. They confirmed that my truck was an early production WITHOUT ANY BRAKE LIGHT WIRING. But, they kept their word on the price: $551 installed with the Ford part which includes a 2 year warranty.
They had to run new wiring to the...
Fed up with trying to find the 4 under dash wires. They are not there. So, has anyone just used the wires on the brake switch like in the old days? Is this even possible? Thanks to this forum for help!
Well, when I went to the local Ford dealer, guess what? They didn't know how to do it and they want hourly costs plus list price on the Ford part. I will look around
Class action suits prey on people that are disgruntled. Once the attorney group gets enough folks to join in they file suit. Nearly all of these suits are settled out of court because all you need is a bunch of corporate hating jurors to give the farm away.
When I was a broker I disdained most...
Did you install the controller? How was it? Did you have a problem with the headliner or interior panels. Thanks for the info BTW. I still cannot fin the wires that are terminated under the dash...
The plot thickens. I've taken videos, photos, spent hours checking things out. Can't find them but the local Ford dealer says they will install parts and labor for $300! Should have contacted them first. I will update. See if they have success. This Friday. Thanks to everyone!!
Thanks for everyone helping, but I am of the opinion that there are none. If memory serves to connect a controller one wire goes to the brake light switch, another to power, another to ground and another to the brake actuation. I think I am stuck here and going to have to run the wires myself...
I have looked at the harness coming through the firewall. Took tape off. I cannot see any add'l harness. Looked at the smaller harness and nothing. There is no blue tape anywhere and so I figure that maybe just bundled with the other stuff. Cant find any wires that end in or around the harness...
I have spent literally 3 hours under the dash, removing tape from several of the harnesses. I looked next to the fuse box. There are larger bundles and the main bundle. But, as I have been removing the tape, I have found nothing with wires that are terminated. I did find a thin green/black wire...
I have been reading every post I can find. I have looked and looked under my dash. Took most of the tape off the main harness looking for the wires to wire a brake controller. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I installed the 5 star tuning tunes the other day. Here is my very short lived (800 miles) analysis.
1- the 93 octane performance tune will chirp/spin the tires in 1,2,3
2- shift was excellent for 93
3- loaded 87 tune (still had 93 in tank). My guess is 70% of the performance gain of the 93...
Replacing a 2017 Explorer Sport. Wasn't sure of the Ranger until I borrowed my son's '19 4x4 and drove it for 5 hours. Seats sold me as well as the ride and power.
I bought a used CPO Ranger Lariat with the off road package, 501A, Trailer tow package. Has 22K miles on it and like new. Very nice...
I recently purchased the 5 star tune. Have not installed yet, but almost went with SSI. There is some negative stuff about SSI out there, but my experience has been fantastic on my 3.5 TT Explorer Sport. I put 60 K miles with their 87 tune and the power increase was absolutely incredible. Ran...
FYI. The best fuel for the truck does have ethanol in it. The 93 will give you safer and better performance. Ehtanol has less btus per gallon so you might get a smidge better mileage out of the straight gas though.
